I'm thinking of getting one of the Boyds heavy barrel Savages, did you have to do anything to it to make it accurate? and can anything be done about the vertical stringing?

Nice shooting, hope your gun likes match ammo my friend has the same gun as yours and he tried many different highend bullets and it won't group any of them smaller than 3" at 50 yards it will only shoot Mini mags, he has wrote to Savage about it no word yet
I shoot an 1/16 of an inch with my anshutz at 100 yards and just stared shooting 1.6 much groups at 200 yards! ... Do I have to create my own thread now?...
I still have the original target but covered up the groups that were shot with a host of ammo.
Then cleaned the rifle and started using different lots of Eley Match with a velocities of 1062, then 1063 and finally 3 groups with 1067.
Rifle is a Remington 40X with a 20 inch Shilen Barrel in a MacMillan stock. Shooting off a Caldwell BR front rest and a leather sand bag for rear support.
As near as I can measure a single bullet hole is .198 but that changes slightly while rotating the target so I settled on .20
c-c with 1062 .30
1063 .33
1067 .19
.154
.37
Average .269
Raining, some wind and no flags at 50 yards.
Good luck. I've been trying this with my CZ455 Varmint over my last 3 outings. Getting there, but there's always one or two flyers on the sheet. I haven't done anything to it yet, so I might play with the trigger soon. Out of the box, though, it's already pretty close.I'm going to attempt this challenge tomorrow with a CZ 455 Thumbhole and a Sako Quad. Wish me luck.
