My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I'm thinking of getting one of the Boyds heavy barrel Savages, did you have to do anything to it to make it accurate? and can anything be done about the vertical stringing?

mine?

thats straight out of the box straight from savage.
not a thing done to it.
not even OILED or cleaned!
haha.
just out of the box, glass on top and to the range.

im coming for you guys!
finally dialed in, this is with Blazer ammo, so now i just need to get my hands on somthing a little higher end and im gonna join the elite group!

2 groups of 5, outdoors, some wind.... 1 flyer!

Nice shooting, hope your gun likes match ammo my friend has the same gun as yours and he tried many different highend bullets and it won't group any of them smaller than 3" at 50 yards it will only shoot Mini mags, he has wrote to Savage about it no word yet

well thats not what i wanted to hear!!!

im happy with what im getting with the cheap Blazer.
i think im gonna pick up some high end stuff and see if i can bring it in a little tighter.

ive always been interested to see just what the difference is between $2.59 Blazer and $20 ammo.

My 10/22 also likes the mini mags better than any match ammo. I am aiming to add a 10/22 to the list. It's not quite as easy ad I had first thought. Sure fun trying though.

Underthegun, are you still keeping track of this thread? I hope so cause i have been trying for a while now. I think I may have came close this morning but I have to get a new set of calipers to be sure. here are some pics. I will add some more with the measurements asap. Ammo used was CCI minni mags 36gr hollow point.

Rest- JSA Tactical shooting bags

Location- a field outside of town

Rifle
-Ruger 10/22
Kidd bolt assembly
Kidd charging handle and spring
Kidd trigger kit
Tactical Solutions barrel

Here is a shot of the target. I will get some calipers later today hopefully and post the final results.

Ok so here are the measurements of my groups:

.671-.22=.451
.457-.22=.237
.710-.22=.49

This was a very fun challenge, now time to move on to the varmint challenge. Thanks Underthegun.

I still have the original target but covered up the groups that were shot with a host of ammo.
Then cleaned the rifle and started using different lots of Eley Match with a velocities of 1062, then 1063 and finally 3 groups with 1067.
Rifle is a Remington 40X with a 20 inch Shilen Barrel in a MacMillan stock. Shooting off a Caldwell BR front rest and a leather sand bag for rear support.
As near as I can measure a single bullet hole is .198 but that changes slightly while rotating the target so I settled on .20

c-c with 1062 .30
1063 .33
1067 .19

Average .269

Raining, some wind and no flags at 50 yards.

I wasn't thinking of participating when I took my dad's 1953 Winchester 52D with bull barrel and 8x Unertl up to the range last week. Using ancient Western Super Match was easily getting 1" groups at 100yds. Forgot how damn accurate it was and the ammo is superb. Realize the ammo is also collectible, still in nice crisp boxes. Will take it up again and keep the targets this time.

That's some good shooting. BUT, since you have other groups on the same sheet I can't add you to the successful list.

bare with me, I NEVER thought I'd be close but now I'm pretty optimistic I can come out and play with you big-dogs in the future on a calmer day with some more practice!!!

spec.
-Savage Mii FVSR, bipod and 'hoody type sweater' as a rear bag shooting some cheap Remington subsonics off the cement table next to my 'upper fire pit' at 'the big lower fire pit' below..

**edit** added a new target pic and after looking at the groups again they seem to be vertically dispersed more so then laterally... makes me think that ammo is coming out at far different velocities... wish I had a chrony now!

.shot 5 shots a few beer can lids in the fire pit and hit the edge of all the openings so then ran down and stapled a target to a log and started 9 more 5 round groups at the paper target as I had 45 rounds left in the little paper box.

I won't get into the threads achiever list, but I know I can almost circumcise a squirrel at my fire pit!

Sorry I'm a newb.. I edited both to clean up my thread post whoring to make it closer to thread rules.. and re-inserted a new pic with target measured with new fancy scale PLEASE tell me if I'm measuring wrong.. from the other threads it seems that you subtract 220 from the widest part of the groups furthest holes. <--newb

side note - CanTire has digital scales onsale from 39 to 11bucks!

I'm going to attempt this challenge tomorrow with a CZ 455 Thumbhole and a Sako Quad. Wish me luck.
Good luck. I've been trying this with my CZ455 Varmint over my last 3 outings. Getting there, but there's always one or two flyers on the sheet. I haven't done anything to it yet, so I might play with the trigger soon. Out of the box, though, it's already pretty close.
