New entry: Got it done with aperture sights!
I waited for the very rare low/no wind opportunity, and after waiting several months, the opportunity arose tonight.
I am fortunate that my local range has a heated shooting house for its 50m rimfire range, so shooting in comfort is possible in the depths of winter. It is fully lighted and approved for shooting at night until 9PM.
Conditions tonight: Outside temperature = -20C. Wind was very slight; I did not bother with setting up flags. Inside the shooting house temperature fluctuates between about +10 to +15C.

Rifle: Anschutz 1907. Anschutz BR wedge installed on the forearm.
Aperture rear sight: Anschutz, with iris set at 1.7, and no filter, mounted on a rearward extension rail for bench rest ergonomics.
Aperture front sight: Anschutz, iris set at 4.0, mounted on companion riser height to the rear rail.
Front Rest: Caldwell BR, with a Protektor 3 inch flat bag.
Rear bag: Protektor, in DIY riser box.
Ammo: SK Biathlon Sport
Photo 2: The slot makes for only a narrow useable and crowded space on the bench. I now use this Manfrotto 2-section double articulated arm with camera bracket, super clamp, and Sirui ball head, which works with the spotting scope so I can get hand and arm access to the BR rest wheel and adjustment knobs. However, I have to stand up out of my chair to see through the angled spotter. The front rest Protektor bag is a standard bench rest 3 inches wide, and you can see on the left side the spacer block I rigged in there to snug up against the narrower 2 1/4 inch wide Anschutz BR forearm wedge. The cold air pours in through the slot and so I use the electric little buddy heater to keep my arthritic fingers functioning (I am so fortunate to have this facility for winter shooting).

Photo 3: Results of tonight's successful target (ISSF 50m, from SFC). I used the elevation and windage dials to move the individual group point of impact while staying sighted on the aiming bull.
