My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

My first entry.

Rifle: Anschutz 1813 Super Match

Scope: Cabelas Covenant 5-25X FFP. I adjusted the windage and aimed at the same point. The POI of sighting was above the POA, however I discovered that the official target was put upside down, so I made some clicks down and start shooting the official target.

Rest: Harris bipod front, my jacket at the rear.... I need a better bench supporting system as most of the bad groups are from my movement.

Ammo: SK Rifle Match (Written on target as RWS by mistake)

Distance: 50 yards

Group 5: 0.644" - 0.22" = 0.424"
Group 4: 0.558" - 0.22" = 0.338"
Group 3: 0.380" - 0.22" = 0.160"
Group 2: 0.601" - 0.22" = 0.381"
Group 1: 0.628" - 0.22" = 0.408"

Average of all groups: 0.3422"
Best group: #3, 0.160"
Worst group: #5, 0.424"

Great shooting. I added you to the successful list.

Tony,

At the risk of chatting in a focused thread, I can recommend the Rempel F-class bipod. Made in Canada at a pretty reasonable price. He's a great guy to deal with.

It gives you the option of shooting in F-class style matches, which a traditional bench rest style "rest" doesn't.

PM me for more info if you like.

Thank you, I think the priority goes to a better shooting rest. Any recommendations?

That's a good point. While paper and pens are relatively inexpensive, good rests are not and are often more difficult to find. I shot a lot of entries on this thread with a Caldwell Rock BR rest, which seems to be the most available model around. An immediate concern, however, should be a rear bag. With an adequate rear bag, such as a hard-bottom Protektor or something similar, the butt hook will not be needed.

Chilly's suggestion of a Rempel is a good suggestion for a bipod if that route is chosen.

Actually there is nothing wrong with using the same reference point and just adjusting your scope.

I like using my Protektor rear bag on a cutting board, but different ranges or shooting styles can change the height you need. I know my next bipod I get won't have fixed ski feet. Found that out when I got a 1403 with the prone angled stock. My Bipod sits on a angle, so does my skis.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with the end result. As an observation only, it simply seems more effort to adjust the scope four times rather than using the same marker to make four more aim points. ;)

LOL your point is well noted, I will try.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions about bipod, rest and rear bags!

When shooting from the bench, its all about repitition and muscle memory. The more variables entered into the equation just beg for failure!! Dont really get using paper towels or recycled whatever when a quality target can be made with many of the same ingredients we throw out or have readily on hand. A proper target with a proper aiming reference to keep the guns position consistent will drastically shrink group sizes. Dont need to spend money but time. Like most things, you get out of it what you put into it!! GREAT shooting tonyzhang

Interesting , you used one (1) aim point (red dot) and adjusted the windage of the scope
leaving the set of the vertical .
huh .,..

My second entry.

I installed peep sights on the Annie 1813 SM and tried to shoot the challenge. I tried 4 times and every time a flyer ruined the target otherwise they are around 0.3 - 0.4" group. Will try another day when the sun is bright.

Then I used the DAR22 and the first attempt was generally okay but 1 group was 0.547". The second attempt was successful.

Rifle: Dlask DAR22 with Green Mountain running boar profile barrel.

Scope: Cabelas Covenant 5-25X FFP. I adjusted the windage and aimed at the same point. I will improve the target as suggested by grauhanen and Longstud. However moving the sight appears to be the only option if peep sight is used.

Rest: Harris bipod front, Champion rear bag from range buddy - it helped A LOT! I have purchased the Protektor solid base rear bag, and will contact Henry Rempel for more information about the bipod. Will look into the Caldwell Rock BR rest as well. Thank you for all the advises!

Ammo: SK Rifle Match

Distance: 50 yards

Group 5: 0.400" - 0.22" = 0.180" - Best
Group 4: 0.553" - 0.22" = 0.333"
Group 3: 0.574" - 0.22" = 0.354"
Group 2: 0.665" - 0.22" = 0.465" - Worst
Group 1: 0.639" - 0.22" = 0.419"

Average of all groups: 0.346"

Nice results again, Tony.

The Lapua Master ammo used hasn't been made in ten or more years. A couple of other shooters have reported using the same variety of ammo. Since its no longer made, I'm curious about its origin. Was it obtained from an ammo dealer's stock?

It was from a private sale among other target stuff.

Scope: Cabelas Covenant 5-25X FFP

Rest: Rempel bipod front, Protektor solid base rear bag. I am still learning how to use the combination.

Two targets were shot and they are all under 1/2". The one with Lapua Master has better groupings and here are the numbers:==

Groupings shot from left to right
Group 1: 0.524" - 0.22" = 0.304"
Group 2: 0.557" - 0.22" = 0.337"
Group 3: 0.435" - 0.22" = 0.215" - Best
Group 4: 0.616" - 0.22" = 0.396" - Worst
Group 5: 0.522" - 0.22" = 0.302"

Average of all groups: 0.311"
