I purchased a Vanguard S2 from a fellow gunnut several months ago.
I had been looking for a quarter bore, and this 257 Bee caught my eye.
Initial tests seemed to indicate it wanted to shoot, but I have not had
a lot of time to fool with it up to now.

So I acquired a bunch of new brass, and did some loading for accuracy and velocity.
I tried the 110 Accubond, since it seemed like a good candidate for the Bee.

I also moved bullet forward a considerable amount, since the throat is long.
I now have 2 loads that are superb. 70 Grains of RL 25 behind that 110 AB
yielded groups right around .6" at 100 meters.

70 grains of IMR 7977 did even better, with one group at .26" and one at .38"
I do believe I will take this deer hunting this fall. Chronograph results to come
later. Dave.

The Vanguards I and II have not a thing wrong with them.

Myself, and many I know were buying many of them when they still didn't take off in price and the SI's were ending their tenure in the stores.

From .243 to 300WM not one shot poorly and with minimal effort.

I have one in 25/06 that may be looking at your tail lights a bit but I loaded 75 A-Max , 100 SC II's and 115 VLD all with success and all with minimal fussing from seating depth, the SC II's naturally were a touch more fussy but overall I am happy with the results.

The Scirocco will be my do everything projectile in this rifle and with a rapid Z mounted on top , as versatile as I ever need.

Never was a quarter bore guy before but I rather enjoy this one.The Boyd's stock made it more comfortable also.

The 257 Wby in general is capable of very good accuracy when chambered in a good rifle, on the contrary to some people's ill informed option of them. I had a Vanguard 1 in 257 and the test target that came with it in the box was a 3/4 inch group for 3 shots at 100 yards and I could duplicate that accuracy with 100 grain TSX bullets quite easily. Pretty darned good for an out of the box hunting rifle and more than adequate! The downside to the Vanguard 1 is the trigger, it can be made better but it's not great.

Mine is quite accurate with factory 87 gr, i have taken a few coyotes with it.

I've had three; a Mark V Synthetic that my son claimed when he was 11, a 700 LSS and my current one which is a Laserguard S2. They all shot loads that they liked.

That last one got a bit of a work-out last year when a friend and I did a population control hunt on fallows and reds. Its quite effective out to 700 and the light recoil helped see the bullets hit. The 115 gr NBT(7828) and 110 Accubond (H1000/2217) (3450 FPS on both) proved to be quite similar in performance, the 100 gr Scirocco (3500) is quite a bit tougher (read that as somewhat slower killing on the small fallows) but a penetrating bastard on anything and solid killer of reds.

Also used a 80 grain TTSX at 3950 fps that was probably the biggest POS I've ever used on game.

Blew the pedals off and 1/4" hole thru or another reason?

You could count on everything that wasn't spined or head-shot running with little
indication of a hit. Never recovered a single bullet so can't say for sure whether they shed petals or not. In the end I guess I don't care much either way, being only interested in results.

Yeah, same ones. They don't give up much in speed to the 100s and make it back in BC in short order. Somewhat tougher than the 100s, which BTW have given a pile of lightning fast kills on deer too. My current .257 'bee shoots the 115s a lot better than the 100s though.

How far did they run and did you recover the animal?

They ran far enough, and often enough that the trailing dogs would have gotten post traumatic stress disorder. 1/4 mile runs to
find a still living animal wasn't that unusual. Contrast that with bullets that routinely jerked the ground out from underneath them.

I don't like monos in calibers under .375 or on animals smaller than buffalo. My purpose for trying them this time was to see if MV of 3950 Fps could make a mono as effective as suitable lead bullets. It doesn't, and what is faster than that?

Same as ive seen to. The ones ive recovered lost all their petals and it was no a short run even from a 300wm

I am another hunter who is less than enamored with the monometal bullets.
Had a couple fail to expand, and the similar long runs on a couple more.
I must try that 115 Ballistic tip...sounds like a quick killer on light game. Dave.

Good to know. Im about to play with 110gr gmx in a 300wm and hoping to get 3800+fps. Doubt id ever use it on game but im planning on killing alot of water jugs

That oak leaf engraved stock does look good. Maybe i should get one in 257 sometime. I was thinking about one in 3006 already
