I have discovered that my 8mm Mag shows a definite preference for the Swift A-Frame bullets.
Using healthy doses of Reloder 26, and allowing about .050 - .060 jump to the lands, I am seeing
groups under 1 moa, and splendid velocities. [the 200 makes 3180 fps, the 220, 3040]
[no excess pressure indications] Recoil is not exactly a maiden's caress.

At 100 meters, the two bullets land exactly 1" apart, straight vertically. I believe I will be set to
hunt elk in grizz country this fall, lol. This rifle is built on a 700 action with a 26" Benchmark barrel.
Bedded into a Bell and Carlson with a bedding block. Decelerator pad and a Triggertech trigger at
2¾ lbs.
Loads are as follows [with usual cautions...start low and work up] 200 A-Frame, Nosler Brass
Federal 215 Primer, 84 grains of Reloder 26. 220 A-Frame, exactly the same except 80.5 grains of Reloder 26.
COL for both loads - 3.60"

I haven’t used A frames yet but I’m planning on using 7mm 175g in my 7RM for moose/elk. They seem like an exelet large game round, and expand at a low velocity for some lower velocity expansions.

Impressive speed with the 200gr Swift in your 8mm mag. Excellent terminal performance with these bullets in my 35 and 45 caliber rifles. Controlled expansion and deep penetration.

An interesting round with generous case capacity. The parent cartridge for the 416 RM.

Holy sweet zombie Jesus! Can you not read something without prattling about something completely irrelevant? The A-Frame is the best bullet on the market. Full stop. What it does in your 35 and 45 caliber rules has #### to do with Eagleye's 8mm, the subject of the thread. I might as well post about using cast bullets in my 45-70 on a thread about IPSC handloads. After all, they're boy using lead bullets, right?

Just get over yourself.

Excellent results. A 220gr Scirocco or Accubond would be a great fit in the big 8, probably come someday

I haven't played with my 8mm REM MAG for a while now!
Looks like Eagleye is on the right path with his....good show!!

Quickload agrees with your loads. Predicted on the 200gr load was 3160 fps (61k psi) and 220gr 3000 fps (same 61k psi)

Heck of a nice powder for the 8RM

Wow!! Imagine how close that is!! thanks Mark for verifying. I measured the Nosler brass across the belt with a very accurate micrometer.
Before firing it was [new brass] .5285" average, after firing .5292" very acceptable first firing expansion. :) Reloder 26 is perfect in the big 8. Dave.

05/06/18 Just a quick update. I loaded 4 of the once fired brass with the loads listed and fired them. Measuring the belts showed absolutely no additional expansion after the initial .0007" on the first firing. This is good news, since primer pockets will stay snug. D.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to buy a 8x68s barrel for my 202 and foolishly passed that chance. A bit slower than the 8mm RM but a good one none the less.

On a seperate note, does anybody know where you can get a frame bullets these days?

... the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

220 a frame from 8mm mag. First one went through just behind the front shoulder. Second one stopped under the hide after breaking the far shoulder. image.jpg

And the recovered a frame image.jpg

Don't remember the exact load I was using at that time. Something with reloader 22 rings a bell. Now I feed it 200 tsx with reloader 25.
