My AR DOESNT suck at all! - follow up.

Wind drift can easily account for a sudden 12" change in POI at 300m, but I didn't notice that much on Saturday, at least not on my relay.

The 68gr hornady bullets work well in some rifles, and not in others. If you have the same problem with the 69gr, and you are not shooting an old version of the Elcan, I would first look to the shooter rather than the equipment.

Today with optics, there is a tendency to put too much emphasis on sight picture, rather than the other fundamentals of marksmanship. Variations in cheek pressure can cause the elevation problems you mentioned. It is easier for this to occur if you have a low mounted scope (lower than the Elcan), or one of those adjustable buttstocks that have a bit of play in them.

Use the ball and dummy drill to check for flinching.

OK, figured out most of the issue is with ammo. Still might be a barrel nut that's too tight. Looking into that as well because TimK say the thing shouldn't be so sensitive to ammo.

Also figured out the cause of my issue with it holding back after the 4th round sometimes.

Magazines... go figure.......

Walt, will give you a shout tomorrow with details.

I wanted to stay, but because we can't get two solid days of dry weather, I had to get my lawn mowed, or the wife would kick me out!! :D

I'll be around for the next one for sure.

Not sure what to do with the WC735. It could just be my load that is causing me the issue.

On another note. I ripped apart my mags. The two that worked fine had their springs in differently than the ones that DIDN'T.. I wonder, could that be applying a different pressure to the follower in the mag causing the hold open..?? The three that don't work so hot are all C-Products mags, and have never been taken down since I bought them new. I wonder.......

Won't know until I try it out live I guess.

Here's who gets to eat MY car keys.. :D

OK, so after all the trials and tribulations I've put myself through during this service rifle season, here's what has been determined....

The original magazines I had were put together incorreclty causing 4th round hold opens. Solved this by switching around the springs in the mags.

The recipes for WC735 which I was using did NOT work for this rifle.

A recipe of .75gr bullet with 24 - 24.2 gr RL15 will get you some awesome results. :D

As of today at a 300 yard shoot I was able to get about 2 MOA in a 5 round group with my AR using an Elcan in the prone.

I hummed and hawed about a lot of components when trying to figure out why I was getting such horrible results, but it turned out to be a number of factors which culminated in one big cluster ####.

I must say that I had a LOT of input from fellow CGN'ers, and I thank everyone for their input, as there always seemed to be something else I needed to check on.

But I will narrow the field to the following for helping me out the most, and getting me back in the game. :)

Walt from Arms East. Always ready to help me on the phone and another provider of solid advice in the way of load development for this platform.

Walt is not a bad guy for a Newf (hey I can say this as I'm originally from Nova Scotia and we always slag each other :D )...
However, he never came clean on whether he could supply me with some bottled moose meat...

And of course..... TimK....

TimK is... well, TimK..... :D

Tons of good advice, a ton of assistance when needed, offers of parts to try to eliminate other components, ammo to try out, and he really looks hot in his "gook" hat while screaming obscenities at soldiers on his megaphone... :D

So, all in all, a happy camper :)

Thanks again for everyone's input. :)

Yep, and it would have been 1/2 MOA if Plink had stopped after the first 3 shots :D:D:p

It was amazing the difference between the 55 and 75 gr bullets, the 55's were all over the place, and as soon as Plink started with the 75's, BAM!!! on a dime.
