I had a great time last night and rang in the New Year with a fair amount of Absinth that I purchased from some Gypsies. Perhaps unsurprisingly I had some visions after I fell asleep. I think it was after I fell asleep but it may have been that phase in between wakefulness and sleep where awesome ideas dance in one's head. Before I continue I should give credit where credit is due - C-FBMI's .234 project was the baseline and impetus for my idea. At any rate I always keep and pad of paper and a pencil beside my bed in case I dream of the winning Lotto numbers so I was able to jot down the idea before it was lost to the etheric world, from whence it came.
Now I have a spare .270 barrel kicking around and I want to convert it to a .234 of some sort. Yeah, yeah, I can hear you all now: "1899 you can rebore to a larger caliber, but there is no way to make it smaller". Wrong my friends. Wrong.
Devcon is the answer. My thought was to simply fill the bore and chamber with devcon, let it set and then send it out for a rebore and rechamber. Almost as soon as I had the idea I thought - "how the heck can you be certain the new bore will be centered"? And the answer came to me just as quickly. I can put a small wooden dowel down the bore before filling it with devcon! But wait - how will I center the dowel? Aha - I can use fishing line on the breech and muzzle ends to hang the barrel horizontally - naturally using a level to ensure it is perfectly horizontal. I can then slip in a longer piece of dowel and tie it out the same way as the barrel. One would of course need to use a tape measure to ensure the two ends of the dowel are the same distance from the hanging point - remember the barrel was already leveled correctly.
Great, but "how will you get the dowel out after the devcon sets"? I've thought of that also. Remember how the wooden dowel is longer than the barrel? Well I will light one end on fire with a small torch and use the sucking function on my shop vac to suction the other side (non-lit) of the dowel to burn it through the barrel - kind of like sucking on a large cigar. The only concern is that this may heat treat the devcon. Do you think this will cause difficulties with the rebore and rechamber?
I was also thinking of recontouring the barrel by hooking it up to the rotisserie on the BBQ and painting devcon on with some method but I don't want to over complicate the project at this point.
OK, so did I miss any important steps? Maybe I should patent the process before I post it. What the heck, such a good idea should be public.
Happy New Year y'all.

OK but seriously what about chamber erosion with that stuff will that stuff hold up ?thermal expansion dissimilar materials, is worth the effort ? And the eventual catastrophic failure BOOM!! If you do go through with it, want the video please! Just another thought( commit from the peanut gallery) paper patch, or sabo carrier, or if you must over bore to a wild cat caliber, better chance of non catastrophic failures just my two cents worth
