This was with my 783 in 308 with Federal Nontypical 150gr. It is a three shot group. On this beautiful day.

The 783 rifles produce some amazing groups for such a cheap rifle.

This is the bore of a 783 in 223 that is very accurate. Going from memory right now but I shot a 5 shot group of I believe 0.335" at 100 yards sighting it in.

It has no right to be that accurate with a bore like this.

Those are very nice groups you both shot, however if it is not repeatable on a regular bases they don't mean much...looks impressive though! :)

I personally never shoot the Bullseye when I'm shooting groups at the range so I can still line up properly with my reticle after the first shot.

Nice group! I'll assume that it was at 100 yards/meters. With hunting rifles, I've accumulated many 1/4" to 1/2" groups. Precision reloading and lot's of shooting will result in tighter groups.............practice makes perfect.

I have a particularly accurate M700, a Classic model chambered in 300 Savage.
It generally shoots 3 shot at 100 into ½ moa or less with loads it prefers.

One time out at the range, I shot a 3 - shot group that measured .040" at 100.
That same day, it shot a 3 - shot group at 225 yards that measured .61".

Both these groups were witnessed. Always great to have a consistent performer.
Dave.

Look at the pictured groups and notice that group #4 is more than 1/2 the size of the next smallest group (group #3)!!!
This happens all the time if you shot well and shot enough groups and explains most impossibly small groups.
(Some exceptional accuracy is also explained by the alignment of the moons which produces a "perfect" rifle, a perfect engine or a perfect computer CPU - the opposite is also true, the lemon car).
This is also why an aggregate of 5 5 shot groups give a true estimation of a rifle's accuracy.

My takeaway is that harmonics are the biggest factor in accuracy rather than machining tolerances and finish. Or, most likely just finish. I have a Winchester 1895 with a bore so pitted you'd cringe at the thought of shooting it. Still shooting 2" groups at 100 with irons and factory loads.

My son has the 783 varmint with the laminated stock and the 26" heavy barrel in 22-250. We've been doing load development with it using various projectiles and powders getting really stunning results a level better than what we are used to with our other hunting rifles that also actually shoot very good groups in their own right. As a source for brass we've been shooting factory American Eagle 50gr. hollow points. Now this was on the 50 not the 100 yard range because we were also using open sights that day so that has to be remembered but as I was shooting the American Eagle my son, who was using the spotting scope became completely confounded trying to figure out where I was shooting. I was also starting to wonder what the heck was going on so I took the fifth shot at the next bull's eye over to the right and it landed perfectly on the same spot as the hole on the target's bullseye on the left. It was like a surreal experience. Yes for sure there was some luck involved and it was on the 50 but for once everything came together just right for me and finally I shot that group that I've been after and it was with the 783, I'm very impressed!

Congrats!
It has been a while for myself, but I know the feeling.....!

Pfft that's nothing!

I can do better groups all day long and I only need 1 shot to do so, not three.

Big difference with rimfire ammo compared to centerfire, velocity, heat, etc are not comparable.
Being able to reload your own ammo makes a huge difference, you can tune a load to get the best out of your rifle.
Here's a bit of load development in 6.5CM, left group is FL sized 120gr, rifle is not happy with that, middle is 140gr FL sized, better for sure, right is neck sized 140gr, same load, all 5 shot groups but out of a heavier barrel rifle then sporting/hunting contours. I generally shoot 3 shot with my hunters as the skinny barrels heat up to fast 5 round groups are pointless. Besides, it's the first one that counts in hunting scenarios anyway.

Dave, I've been waiting for you to get bored of that rifle's stellar accuracy. Then I will pounce on it.

I always felt that a group outta be measured from the center of the bullseye, to the center of the furthest bullet hole from.
