As requested, I put together a few pics of how my cheapo NM hood works. Without getting into cutting measurements, I'll leave that to your discrection, I basically took a .30 mauser steel case, cut a groove to the shoulder with a dremel, took 10mm brass, cut a notch on it, blued it, and put slip it over.

The .30 mauser brass is tight and will expand when it is twisted to fit on the rear sight. This were the cut groove does it's work. The slight expansion developed by the fitting of the rear sight will create a snug fit for the 10mm brass. It's not a perfectly measured installation but it works. The hood is tight and will not move. You will need to do some hand fitting and filing to make it work. It's cheap!

I hope this helps guys! Expand on it.

the_big_mike, kinda figured it out myself. I had other designs that involved machining work but this ended up the most simplest solution and cheapest. Actually it cost me nothing. I found the brass at the range!!

Yeah, baby , Yah !! That's the spirit (I mean the welfare approach) to upgrading your gear. I love it. Sure beats rushing out and buying a National Match hooded rear sight aperture especially when most of you will not be competing with your iron sights. Go cheap... save your money !!

Thanks for sharing this cool idea.
