They are around, just harder to find as all C#7 parts have been since the receivers showed up the last few years. ... My barrel was $175 alone. Two years ago, I could find them for $100 and I remember a fine fellow purchasing one at a show for around $25.
There are .22 barrels out there. I know a Saskatoon gunsmith who experimented with a rechambered CNo7 in 5.56 for target shooting in the late '80s when the DCRA started getting two kinds of ammunition from DND. The theory was, Lee Enfield 7.62 conversions flip more consistently at the long ranges for better grouping than the then alternatives. Why not see if it holds true with an original profile barrel in 5.56? It wasn't as good as a purpose built heavy profile barrel.
