Oh nice!!!

How well do the magpul mags work? What are the potential issues? I read in the documentation that polymer mags are not recommended but are they just covering their ass or is there some issue with the polymer mags and the way this rifle works?

It's hard to tell for now since I didn't fire this carbine yet :) But it works with snap caps. Locking back not always works and those mags have been sanded down to fit my Armalite lower. I don't think that unmodified Magpul mags will fit at all. Need to try Tangodown mags one day. Well, for show - those Magpul mags will fork just fine, but for the range day I all use LAR's anyways.

I'm not trying to start something or want to get flamed....
but I got the 7.62x39 carbine version because it makes me kringe thinking about mods to make my brand new toy "work".

id64 I hope everything works out for you.

I got 5.56 version for the 2 reasons. Use 10 round magazines and shoot it sometimes at my clubs indoor range. They allow to use frangible .223 ammunition. Expensive, but saves the trip to Silverdale :) I've got 7.62 in non restricted format for a pure, raw fun ;)

Range report

Very positive. Check this video out.

1. Magpul

2. LAR black version

3. LAR Grey version

4. AR standard mag

No problems at all :)
