Hey guys. I've done a rough tally of what I spent on building my 10/22. As some maybe sceptical as to how you get to the 3K mark for a build. Well here is what the beauty has cost me in "Total"......

Gun $282
Richard Microfit Stock $300
Finish Stock $300
Butt Pad Installed $100
GM SS Fluted Barrel $275
VQ Carbon Fibre Tension Barrel & Compensator $500
VQ TG2000 Trigger Assembly $$300
VQ Firing Pin $45
VQ Extractor $20
VQ Extended Handle $45
Dar Receiver $270
Kidd Scalloped Bolt $270
Hawke Scope $175

That all totals to $2882 and doesn't count the VQ hammer and sear kit I purchased ( as I don't recall what I paid ) to lighten up the trigger prior to purchasing the TG2000. Keep in mind shipping costs have been included as well as exchange rates!! Bottom line.... that's what I have paid. ( hopefully not forgetting anything!! )

So my apologies, it is under the 3k mark... Not by much, and I have yet to sell my GM Barrel to recoup a few bucks.

This is how she looks right now minus the new Kidd Bolt which is in the mail.....

I was going to do a custom build again, but then started adding up costs. So instead of buying a stock ruger and modifying it, I skipped that step and bought a complete Dlask Dar-22. Worked out to be cheaper than building it myself to get the exact same gun.

You can't really include the original rifle cost in your build cost, because it is not in the build. Sell the original stock rifle to recoup some money. Is this your first build? You over paid on a few items, namely barrel and $700 for a Richard's stock (???)... your build should be under 2K...

But... whatever... I will bet you had fun, learned some stuff and now have a dandy range toy... use it to get kids out shooting. Getting kids to shoot was the motivation for the dozens of builds that I did over the years.

Good shooting.

I posted this build on August 12/15;

Build;

- Dlask DAR22 receiver
- Dlask machined bolt
- Rimfire Tech Charging handle and decelerator rod/spring
- Kidd Single Stage trigger group
- Kidd Ultralight 16" barrel
- Boyd's Walnut Rimfire Hunter stock @ 13 1/4" LOP
- Dura Sight Z2 QD rings
- Leupold VX-1 4-12X40mm

Here is the cost breakdown including tax and shipping;

Total = $1400 + scope
Grand total with optic = $1800

Wow, serious coin on a 22.
I wonder how it would compare to a CZ at half the cost?
Unique builds = priceless
Seeing them on EE for same cost or more = silliness

Also when you change out parts you can't total that into your build, you can only count what is on the gun, so if you once had an original bolt and changed the pin and extractor then later bought a complete aftermarket bolt your cost only includes the new bolt, basically put the gun in front of you and add up what's there, not what's in the box behind you.

Heres mine

I bought a stainless 10/22 minus barrel and stock for 250
I bought a Dlask 8.5" Barrel 160
SR22 Kit with Dlask Rails, MOE Grip and CTR Stock for 275
I put in a TI extended mag release, extractor, buffer, auto bolt release and stainless take down screw was 80$
Vector 1.5-5x20mm Scope 70$
Rings Free

Still waiting on a VQ Target hammer and Fake Suppressor. 835$ so far w/o the Target hammer that sells for 53$ and the fake can you can normally find around 45-50$

As per mags, I got 3X BC steel lips and 1X 10rd.

This is a great thread. Just listing the parts needed for a build helps me see the whole picture when deciding to build or buy. I agree with Hoyt that if nothing used from original rifle then that should not be included in price.

Its all this that still is discouraging for a decent, not amazing, 22 target gun

Kinda why I just bought a VLEH direct from ruger. Even the inflated price probably isnt far off what Id probably spend on a custom heavy barrel setup..

Im hoping it isnt a let down as I have yet to try it. But it looks and feels very nice so far.

My 10/22 is an amazing target 22lr! Even with the second walnut stock included I don't think I am over 2k not including optics. If I want to break the bank I would mount the March FFP 3-24x52 mil/mil scope and Clip on Night Vision to it! LOL

Parts list includes the following...

Dlask 30moa receiver
KIDD 20" threaded barrel and AAC 51T brake or KIDD thread protector
VQ barrel clamp and bolts
KIDD Scalloped bolt
KIDD bolt handle and light spring
KIDD Single stage trigger group
KIDD bolt buffer and trigger group pins
Tacticool stock and custom extension from Australia
Bushnell 2.5-16x42 6500 Tactical on US optics rings with QD side rings for the NV

I included everything that the gun has cost me to get it to the state it's in as of today.

When I originally purchased the 10/22 I never had any intentions of modifying it like I did. So that's why I include EVERYTHING into " MY " total cost.

Thanks for everyone posting up what they have done and their costs!!

Everyone who has personally seen my rifle ( as well as lots of people on the net ) just love it. Won't get the WOW factor with a stock one. As well as shoots awesome. Fun hobby as well.

No need to justify a build. There are always going to be stock rifles that shoot better and cost less. I will bet that 90%+ of the people that do a 10/22 style build do it because the upfront (getting started) cost is low, and don't put any thought into the finally dollar tally... if you had told those same people to just buy a new Anschutz upfront, most would recoil at the upfront purchase price.

Builds are interesting and fun and so is tuning the final build and getting it running smoothly and accurately... "quality building" and "accurate shooting" do not always go hand in hand...

My build was $700 but prices has skyrocketed. Now the same parts are 25%+ more.
So a 1k rifle. Not a $2300 rifle.
I think everyone would agree that there should be a big difference between a 1k rifle and $2300 rifle.

Sure: everyone agrees that the $2300 is loved more than twice as much as the $1000. That's a big difference! :d
