Hit the range today and took my daughter (11 yrs old) we had a great afternoon with the SKS although she was only shooting 25 yards out she was hitting close to center and had tight groups. The SKS is an awesome firearm.

I introduced three ladies to shooting my sks up in Nipigon... they loved it cause it was informal and the rifle has little recoil... mostly cause they could let'er rip...

Their smiles made it all worth while, when they each emptied the gun in 5 seconds shooting from the hip:)

Good for you. Get them involved early, it can become a sport for life.

Makes me laugh regarding an SKS post the other day; Some Dork was yapping about "the punishing recoil of the SKS".

My ten year old nephew will shoot all day long, or until I stop handing him bullets. This is a great beginner rifle to learn how to shoot open sights. We go to our favorite abandoned gravel pit and chase pop cans across the pit all day long.

I think the dork was being sarcastic....that's how i read it anyhow

my sks has been the first rifle shot for lots of people my younger siblings my gf and quite a few of my friends. it really is a good rifle to start people on i have .22's too but they can get boaring quite fast when the skill isnt there to be acurate. also you just tell them that there shooting the same ammo a ak uses :p

It is so true! people often ask me what kind of Ammo does an SKS use and i will tell them it uses the 7.62 x 39 round, they look at me funny then i always just say "same ammo as an AK-47" and they are like "oh cool"....:D i guess the SKS will always live in the shadow of it's AK brother.

i went to a jug shoot at a local range here and people where lining up to shoot the "ak-47" (cz 858) yet no one was wanting to shoot the sks. i donno how i feel about the people running the shoot telling everyone that the 858 was a ak but the general lack of fear show's how dumb it is there prohib

My husband recently introduced the SKS to a buddy's girlfriend while they went shooting. My husband said she seemed to like it and handled it well for her first time. In my opinion it's a great rifle.

I've so far taught five ladies to shoot the SKS, and there is nothing hotter then a good looking lady shooting a bad ass, bayonet wearing, communist bullet spittin rifle. The slight recoil is just enough to make the tight bodies shake!

You, Sir, are awesome. I'm with you there. I've taught (more like familiarized) a few gals on how to shoot a rifle using my SKS (because cheap ammo) and sometimes on my AR subcarbine (with it's shorter barrel has a relative recoil, at least to me).

Quite the hot scene, especially if they're doing it right (unlike many morons seen on YouTube who let their girls' fire their rifles without teaching them proper firing positions - possibly because they don't know either).

:dancingbanana:

OK Fiddler get this straight

When i referred to the punishing recoil of the SKS i was being sarcastic, trying to inject a little humor into the topic. Why is it that dozens of others understand that and the joke is still lost on you Fudd?

You aren't a fan of the rifle, granted, put it to bed now, we've all heard it.
