My Deer Shot

You all are a bunch of clowns.

How about you select a proper cartridge with a proper bullet. Shoot at proper distances. And shoot deer in the proper area.

This long range, magnum, sniper, pink mist bulls**t should be put to an end. Some of you seem to have slept through ethics.

What was wrong with the load I used? .30-06 with a 168 gr Nosler Ballistic Silver Tip & 54.0 gr of H4350.

It wasn't directed towards you.

However, if you are out shooting ''meat deer'' at 60 yards you could get away with a whole lot less gun.

Ok, I've seen it all now! First you ##### and complain about the shot placement, now you ##### and complain about the rifle I use. If you don't like the caliber and load I used, TFB! That rifle was handed down to me by my father. I like the gun. It shoots nice and has a smooth operating action. The load I used was from the reloading data. The bullet was made by Nosler and Winchester specifically for hunting. I know of people using .338 Lapua for deer....so don't give me $hit about mine. I'll hunt the way I want to hunt. You can hunt the way you want to hunt and I don't care how you do it. 'Nuff said.

Are you out of your mind?

Please re read the post you quoted. Carefully this time. And then think about what you said.

I understand the quick kill in the spine but the window for error is to great with a shot like that. I will stick with the lung shot.

If this shot is so good how come you never see professional hunters shooting at the neck but always at the lungs/heart?

I know my gun.

I have seen professional hunters go for the neck and head.

I have a hunch your profesional hunters you see on tv aren't so profesional. The lungs are a bigger target and these guys, (who I shall not name but have heard/seen things) tend to wound alot of game anyways. Most of the shows are rigged. My favorite account is actually not a big game episode, instead they were 'hunting' pheasant. Ever see a pheasant 'flush' from above the shooter out of frame and come towards the ground flapping like a jackass but not gaining any altitude? And then the 'hunter' still required a second shot after he missed the first and splashed it as it was about to bounce off the ground? I have, and it's a fairly popular show too.

Yes the shows are rigged to show action and the good shots. Another point with your comment is that even "pro" hunters still have bad shots while aiming at a larger target area....so why shoot at a smaller area with greater chance of error?

I'm not trying to start something, the shot is not an illegal shot so who am I to say what to do? I just know that I take lung heart shots, I would feel pretty dam ####ty if i tried a neck shot and wounded an animal.

Because you are right in the sense that the lung/heart IS a larger target. If Im shooting at say anything over 100 yards I wouldn't go for a head/neck shot.

But under 100 if you know your shooting ability and you know your rifle then you shouldn't have a problem making that shot.

In a perfect world yes, but people who know there shooting ability and their rifle also make bad shots.

Yes they can but in that same respect anyone can miss at any distance. But under 100 yards it takes a lot to be out more than an inch unless you don't trust your shooting or your rifle or SEVERE wind. Yes the deer can all of a sudden move but the same thing can happen with a shot on the "vitals" and instead you put a round through his intestines/stomach.

Like I said before my grandfather did it for many many years growing up and that was with a single shot .22LR rifle (these were about 60 yards max). And later in his life he did the same with centerfire rifles out to 100 yards. Never once had a wounded deer because of taking these shots.

I could go on but we are going to have to agree to disagree because I think this thread has been hijacked enough.

Awsome shot good kill.

Once more WTF is going on in the hunting forum. You anti hunters should go hump yourselves.

Ya heart lung shots never miss. What a bunch of bullsh!tt or did the dear I found dying on the road , that I had to kill last year with its front shoulder blown to shiit result in a clean kill?

What a bunch of crap.

Perhaps all the animals with their guts shot out, asses shot out or legs taken off by crap shots are preferable. Hunters that shoot minute of pie plate must, by necessity, take the slower death by drowning in blood shots. Sure sometimes that is the shot, but I will take head neck shots when I can. Go cry to Peta or Greenpeace.
:HR:

So a 30-30 Winchester at 75 yards isn't good?

And what defines the PROPER area?

If you go way back and read my original post. Actually read, and not glance over it you will see that I said to pick you're equipment and do it properly.
I never said anything about yardage. Nor anything about a lever gun.

READ. And then think about posting.

As for the rest of this crap most of you are spewing. If you are comfortable with a shot. Take it. If you think there is a smidgen of a chance you might pull it and end up with a gut shot. Don't.

I would, and have passed on some pretty damn big bucks because I wasn't a hundred and ten percent sure.
