I'm starting this thread to include all the varmint/heavy barrel rifles that were excluded from the factory hunting rifle challenge.

All groups must be 5 shot groups.

Here are the rules:

The rifle must be a factory varmint/heavy barrel rifle with no major modifications.

The rifle must still have the factory barrel. Aftermarket stocks and triggers are allowed.

**ALL GROUPS MUST BE UNDER .750"@ 100 yards/meters**

You must shoot 5 consecutive 5 shot groups on the same paper. There can't be any other groups on the "official" target.

There must not be anything on the target that could be hiding a failed attempt.

Your successful post must include the following:

A pic of the rifle and the rest that was used to shoot your targets

A pic of the target showing all successful groups with the group size beside the group

A pic of your smallest group with a set of calipers showing the group size.

-When measuring your groups be sure to measure the groups properly. This is a good example of how to measure your group. Measure the extreme outside spread of your group and then subtract the bullet diameter

Your post must include all 5 group sizes (as well as written on the target. Sometimes the writing is to small to read)

Have fun and be safe.

Smallest average- Ruthless .360" Savage M10 fp 308

Underthegun, I love these threads but you are costing me a fortune. Oh and I'm now blaming you for the current reloading component/ammo shortage. :D:D

I am considering changing the factory stock requirement. I am going to decide this with a vote! PM me with either "factory stock only" or "aftermarket allowed". I will accept votes until 10pm central tonight (Feb 7). Only the PM votes will count. Feel free to voice your opinion here in the thread.

For the record the possibility of allowing aftermarket stocks is for this challenge only. The hunting rifle challenge will remain unchanged.

I PM'd you for allowance, just because then I'm not excluded.. haha.

In all honesty, this gun catagory strickly depends on how much your gun costs then. The 1600$ stock factory guns are competeing against the $400 dollar ones. Allowing aftermarket stocks equals the playing feild in my view. Some of those 600$ guns are just as good as the $1200 ones, they just don't have the added "Factory stock".

We'll see what others say though.

I also assume once (or if) you "graduate" to the .5MOA challenge that you're name will be removed from this one?

In regards to measuring your groups: ........as I remember, you measure from outside to outside and deduct the bullet diameter. Amounts to the same thing but, I'm told that's the proper way to measure groups and more accurate results.
...my .02 cents.

Mike
PS I'm waiting for the paperwork to come through from the new club I've just joined before I can participate.

Yes Mike, all groups are measured from center to center. And the way you described how to do it is the most common way. Good luck once you get to the range.

You must remember that this isn't a competition. It is simply a challenge. Therefore it doesn't really matter if all the guns are on a level playing field. The reason I am considering adding aftermarket stocks is simply to include more people.

If we are lucky this thread and the hunting rifle thread might answer the age old question "Which rifle is more accurate, Remington, Savage, or Tikka?". For what its worth the obvious answer is Tikka lol.
