My factory VARMINT/HEAVY BARREL rifle shoots sub .75" all day! Really? Prove it!

I am considering changing the factory stock requirement. I am going to decide this with a vote! PM me with either "factory stock only" or "aftermarket allowed". I will accept votes until 10pm central tonight (Feb 7). Only the PM votes will count. Feel free to voice your opinion here in the thread.

Send me a PM to vote

It is 10pm and go figure, a tie. I guess I have to make the final decision. I think that in order to get as many people involved as possible without starting another damn "My rifle can shoot" thread I am going to allow aftermarket stocks. And because I allowed them in the hunting rifle challenge I am allowing aftermarket triggers as well. I understand the argument about staying as close to factory specs as possible, but I would much prefer to see more people participate. Thanks to the 8 people who voted lol. Rod

That's a victory all in itself!!

Whoo hoo!

I can't see it any other way. It would pretty much be a competition of the "top class stock rifles". Ie, my cheap, bare bones AAC-SD with a rubber band of a stock vs somebody's XCR with an B&C or HS stock. Very similar gun, but because their not using a slinky to shoot they have a huge advantage.

I'll see what I can string together. Thanks for the rule UPDATE.

Well yours has a X Mark pro trigger your out too, hope your Bell and Carlson Medalist isn't on either..lol

???

I think you need to read the last couple pages (including my whining). He's allowing stocks and triggers, although my trigger is factory. The only thing not factory is my stock, but the whole point, besides it's shape, is factory guns come with the exact same stock (more or less) at a higher price point. Namely, the XCR, Police, 5R, etc.

I also have an adjustable but plate, but we're going to see if I can wiggle the rules on that since it's an add-on to the stock.

What about bedding? Is that allowed? It seems like a pretty clear consensus is that bedding is "the # 1" change you can make to a rifle to improve accuracy. Factory rifles having no bedding.

Why not? Some factory rifles come bedded. 40X's do. All my hunting guns with factory stocks are bedded except the canoe paddle Ruger I have.
It just makes sense to have a stock mated to action, factory or not.
Bedding may help, but a match barrel and match bullets will do more for accuracy than just a bedding job, but then we are into a semi-custom rifle and .5 MOA.

I think all the rules have been settled. GET OUT AND SHOOT!

I'm actually surprised. I know I'm one of them, but I work M-F and my shooting locations are 1.5-2 hours away. Only possible for me to attempt on weekends.

Only one person has posted results. There has been more on the .5" challenge in the amount of time this has had.

I will see if I can get out this weekend. I wish I could clean my barrel first.... ~650 rounds and counting... haha.

Actually, 2 people have posted results...have a look at page 3 :)

Did anyone get out this weekend and give it a shot?

I did and failed. Tightest group was a .68 but most definitely not repeatable. Ranged from .68 to 1.3 with a couple I didn't even bother measuring. Not good...

I seem to be taking steps backwards and not forwards. Need to see what the issue is. I had a variety of rounds made at different dimensions off lands. Nothing shot well after cleaning my barrel (which was very fouled). I'm wondering if I selected the wrong amount of powder working off an already dirty barrel. Might do some more ladder tests. In other words, starting from step 1 again..

On a possitive note, it was a great day to get out of the city. Beautiful weather.
