My factory VARMINT/HEAVY BARREL rifle shoots sub .75" all day! Really? Prove it!

Nice shooting. If you mean the 1 moa challenge thread (300 yards) you need to send 5 more rounds at it.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that is .725 inches at 304 yards, not .725 moa which would be more like 1/4moa. That would be quite a bit better than 3/4 moa. Correct me if I am wrong 6MT.

Totally wrong thread, and it would need 4 more groups to count in this thread, but hey, great shooting!!

OK I'm in. I'm on a budget (live in Alberta, so eating lots of Kraft Dinner al dente). I shot this a few weeks ago, just had the rifle out twice at this point. Has a metal butt plate so shooting all day might cause bruising:

Distance: 100 yards
Sights: open v notch
Rifle: K31 (made 73 years ago)
Ammunition: GP11 off the shelf (Made 29 years ago)
Caliber: 7.5mm (translates into a .308 calibre bullet)
MOA: 0.529

Today I tried, and failed at, this challenge.

I am not a great shot and newer at reloading so I don't know which is holding me back the most.

Sorry about the awful pictures. It's my first time using Photobucket and I don't know why they are so low resolution.

Hey, these groupings are'nt bad at all... Sure place for improvements, but you're on the good path. Trigger control is a thing that I need improvement too, I use to sight something at home and squeeze the trigger, so I concentrate myslef on the target to be sure that when it goes I don't move my crosshair form the target.

What is everyone's group shooting methodology when it comes to completing these challenges? I've been working up a .223 load this winter and am having difficulty bringing in the group sizes. Im finding that I need to shoot 1-2 rounds to foul/warm the bore and shoot in regular succession to be consistent. If i stop long enough for the barrel to cool off (seems like only minutes), it will throw a shot to the right. Some groups have two clusters on a diagonal, as if they were two different barrel temperatures?

Gave it a try today and was so close. Groups were 1) 0.640, 2) 0.807, 3) 0.703, 4) 0.749, 5) 0.681 If I had just been shooting a 30 cal....Haha.
Shooting a Tikka T3 Varmint in 243Win shooting 70gr Bergers. Topped with a Nikon Monarch scope. Anyways, gun is going up for sale. Check out the Precision EE for details.

I gave it a shot the other day. Shot a fast string and all was good until the sun came out and caused some issues. Rifle is a Remington 700 5R milspec with only a trigger tech trigger added. Going to try again on Tuesday.

I think its going to be as much about who the good shots are. I would bet that the guys that make the list would be able to do it with a comparable rifle from Browning, Remington, Ruger, Sako, Savage etc.

I think many would agree that once you have a capable rifle (not all makes; not even all barrels from the same manufacturer will shoot this) the largest barrier to the challenge is ammunition. Once you have your handloads dialed in, the challenge becomes figuring out how to shoot the 5 targets in a way that avoids overheating, fouling etc. Of course you'll need good shooting conditions as well.

Doing the actual shooting (from a solid benchrest) is easier than you might think, IMO. I think lots of people attribute poor groups to lack of skill or practice but in reality some of their equipment (or ammunition) simply isn't capable of the level of accuracy they think it is. That Winchester white box was never going to put 5 in the same hole regardless of your shooting ability.

Didn't plan on going to the range today but ended up there anyway. Great day and finally got my hand loads dialed in for my 223. Here's my successful attempt, almost lost it on group 4 pulled the first shot and had to move the group over to match the first round. shot at 100 meters (109 yards) from a bench with bipod and rear bag by my Tikka stainless 223 varmint with 6-24x50 Nikon BX1000 only thing I've done to the rifle is put in a lighter trigger spring.

5 groups are
.48, .7, .47, .59, .61MOA after accounting for distance.

Unless something's changed recently, unfortunately Underthegun's challenges don't take the extra few yards from a metric range into account (i.e. the challenge is for no group greater than 0.75" not 0.75MOA). Great shooting nonetheless; much closer than I've ever come to this challenge.

I've taken up this cause in other threads but it seems the majority of Canadian shooters only have access to clubs/ranges in yards.

Great contest!

I shot a Remington 700 BDL Varmint last night. 223 Rem in a Marksmen stock.
