Hi fellows nutz:d

I missed to have a pump shotgun so i picked up a barely used Mossberg 590A1 on the EE. Its the 7 shots model,GR sight,18.5 inch barrel with cylinder accu choke. I love it,i sold my 590 mariner fews years ago to fund a milsurp so i had to get another Mossberg. This one was barely used so i jumped on it. However,i am not a fan of the tri-rail forend and i have a standard 1 coming in the mail. The shotgun had a little issue. the left cartridge stop didnt let a shell pop out from the magazine. Problem was that the cartridge stop was a bent in a bit too much so the action bar was running behing the stop instead of pushing it in the receiver recess to allow shell to feed correctly. Easy fix, took 2 mins and now its 100% reliable, tested during a complete evening with dummy rounds, no less than 150 times! A way to spend an evening and i am sure that the problem is fixed! I guess the cartridge stop was made on a monday or a friday lol. In all i am very happy, not going to add stuff on it, i like to keep things simple:)

Did you pick up the 590a1 on the E&E with removable chokes ?

Good purchase ! Glad you got the feeding issued sorted out. Not a fan of the tri-rail either.

Love 590a1's.

Yes that's the one, bought it last weekend. The first owner didnt use it much so he never experienced the issue. Sometimes Mossberg QC sucks but its the first time i had any issues with a Mossberg but anyway all is perfect now:d

Nice.

You said you didn't want to add anything but you might want to consider a better recoil pad, depending.

Right on. If i don't shoot UTS for pump, its my 590A1...got the 20" nine rounder. Never had an issue ( except with the price tag back then...LOL )

Congrats on the purchase. Chokes on a tactical shotgun. I'll have to look into that for my 590a1 as I go trap/skeet shooting with friends.

As 870P recommended about the better recoil pad, I got myself the Magpul SGA stock. The LOP was way too long for me and the SGA has the ability to adjust. Plus, the recoil pad is slightly softer than the stock pad.

And yes, don't like the tri-rail either. The side rail hits my thumb when I shoot, starts to hurt after a bit, so I took it off. Just be careful as the nuts on the inside don't come out when you take the rail screws off (unless you disassemble the forend completely), but I guess it's not an issue for you since you're replacing it.

I will probably never change the choke, the cylinder is better with slugs anyway but its nice to have the option. I will see about the recoil pad. I was reading and watching videos about the UTS 15, look fun but i prefer any standard shotgun,590 or 870,much more useful imao but its me:)

I am looking at the S&J mag extension for the 590A1,i like that sling plate set up too. My 590A1 have a +1 extension but the S&J +2 seems neat! I know, expensive just to get another shell in mag but still considering... Anyone tried it? Stay nice and tight even after extended shooting? Worth it?
Thanks for any advices:)

Have the S&J +2 on mine, highly recommend it. Worth it for the extra round imo. Stays tight, looks good, well made.

I believe so but can't confirm 100% because I only run 2 3/4 in mine.

Honest, 2 3/4 are enough to do the job. The extension on Mossberg is made by Choate, its nice but from what i can see,the tube end plug is made of plastic and the swivel stud is threaded in. Probably wont cause problems but since i saw the setup on the S&J extension, i think would be better since are 3 possibles position for it,and its always nice to have quality parts made in canada:d

Ok i got my S&J extension and a standard forend to get rid of the Tri-rail one. The extension is well made.. The sling plate is nice and the finish is perfect.
