Bought my first Buck Mark URX w the contour 5.5 barrel.

A few years ago, after I got my Sig P226, I then set my sights on a 22 cal lr. I wanted a Buck Mark in the worst way. At the time, no one on CGN had one in minty condition that I wanted...so I settled for a Ruger mkii that was in nice shape. Bought it from a fellow CGN'r from out in Alberta. Great pistol btw....but it wasn't a Browning ☹️

But, in the back of my mind, I soooooo wanted to find a Buck Mark. So I decide to shelf that idea for now, since the brand new Contour URX or other high end Buck Marks here in Ontario, start at $ 649 plus trudope's 13 % pound of flesh.

Then came this weekend....it happened !! 😃 Decided to stroll through Cabelas here in Kanata, since I was in the market for a good pair of range boots....wth, I'll go see what hand guns they have in stock....
And DAAAAYYYYYYM there it was in one of the glassed in cubicles.....a gorgeous minty Buck Mark 5.5 Contour URX, COMPLETE with the gun (of course) 😜 2 mags, gun bag, manual, and ......waaaait forrrrr it....
and last but not least, a waaaay cool Browning reflex with 4 different t sights, and seven brightness factors !!!!.....all for an unbelievable price of $499, + tx ...the gun was soooo in minty cond. I could've used it for a breath mint loooool. I knew at that moment, it was meant for me...and I had to have it.

My dad knew I wanted it real bad, so he gave me 1/2 the $ for it...just "a little something for my son" he says...what a great father he is. He DID say however, that he wants many range trips this summer so he can poke some holes in the targets. He also fell in love it as soon as he saw it in the store. He wanted to come with me when I returned, so he could see it in person. I told the lady behind the counter, to put it on hold and I'd be back

I k ow it was a long story, but one worth sharing with you CGN'rs 😎👍
I hope to have my father me for a long time to come, so we can make more memories with our Buck Mark Contour.
............now I have to wait for the CFO to complete the paperwork 🙄😒, then I can take my baby home !
cya later Fellow CGN'rs

Excellent price. Very nice gun and sights. I have the 7.25" version and it is my favourite .22LR pistol.

Very nice pistol even from a 22/45 Lite fanboy like me ;) I almost bought the Buckmark target model with the wood grip last year.. may be I will really go for it when the year end sales come this year.

What a nice dad you have! Kinda make me jealous. My dad is typical Asian father who think shooting is a waste of time and money. I already bought a Ruger SR22 for my son and had it tugged away as a surprise for him in the future when he wants to start pistol (bolt action stuff first for now....). I hope I'm a nice enough dad too and not like my own father....

Thanks lavino, and you're right... he REALLY is a great father... interesting story about my guns and my father, now that we're on the subject:

Back when I was 16 (I'm 54 now), he bought me my first firearm, when I passed my hunters safety course. It was a Winchester semi-automatic 22cal rifle. Sometimes when he wasn't working on the weekend, we'd go out to the bush, set up some old cans n stuff, and plink the afternoon away....good times... :)

And a few years ago, I got interested in handguns...and as a birthday present, he bought me my first handgun, a Sig P226 Elite Dark 9mm....and now? He goes and chips in and I bought my Buck Mark...he really is a great guy. He doesn't hunt, but loves plinking and messin around.

Looks like the both of us are gonna do some serious plinking this summer. Great chance to spend some quality time with one cool guy. :D You see, he's not rich, he's just an average guy getting by on a pension. Yet he dug into his pockets and does this for his son....and THATS why it means the world to me.

btw, I have a mkii I got used from a CGN'r 2 years ago...great gun...but the Buck Marks steal the show in looks AND accuracy. Lavino, next time you have a chance at a Buck Mark.....don't pass on it ok? ;)

Lavino, forgot to add onto my reply to your comment about you hoping to be a good Father like my Father?...well, it sounds to me like you already are. Teach him how to shoot, be there for him, go to the range with him, teach him how to be safe and how to handle firearms properly. You're already halfway there man ;)

How's the weight? I held one without a rail, then a 5.5" with a full rail. Man the full rail was heavy!!! It made me second guess a full rail.

Hi Rob,
before you knock off the Buck Mark, consider these points first;
- it's not like your gonna be holding your mark on target for a few minutes
- at only 10 rounds per mag, we're talking no more than a minute. And if you're taking your time, you lower the weapon for a few secs, then take aim once more
- weight is good on a gun for reduced recoil, even if it's only a 22 lr. Means better groupings for rapid firing
- ya gotta admit, the gun is well balanced, probably due to the heavy barrel, because the receiver is alloy
- I don't know about you, but heavy things give me a sense of value (audio speakers, writing instruments, furniture,....GUNS !!!) :)
- oh and last but CERTAINLY not least....did I tell you that Buck Marks look badass with a rail?!?!?

Now if THESE points aren't enough to make you reconsider this fine weapon....well...I dunno what will ;)

I got a browning urx with 5.5 inch barrel with an old tasco pro class on it, shoots pretty decent. I used to have a browning reflex sight, I got a benneli mr1 with the scope rail mounted so I bought the reflex sight to try out the rifle. I had it in a soft case and when I opened it up at the range pieces of black plastic came out, the battery cover on the browning reflex sight broke into 5 pieces, I took it back for a refund.

Totally agree on the heavy barrel well balanced part. Even my main is a 22/45 Lite Green (20-ish oz) I also own a 22/45 non-lite bull barrel (32 oz). Although the Lite is super light in weight and easy to hold, faster to aim etc etc, the bull barrel version is very steady and I can just use it without optics and great on recoil control. The lite does require a comp to be effective on faster shooting (most people said comp is not needed for 22lr but if you use a 20-ish oz 22/45 lite with hv ammo you can definitely feel the diff doing a mag dump. It is not the recoil up part matter but the comp does help faster recovery on follow up shots for the 22/45 Lite).

Btw, to mikey1, thx and I will definite buy the Buckmark Target Model this year ;) There is no such thing as too many....

tru dat  man

Mikey, I do have plans of getting a buckmark, held a few as well as shot one once. I fell in love with it.

But comparing a full rail to no rail felt like a big difference.
I saw some with a partial rail, seemed like that might be the way to go.
I like the idea of being able to put a red dot on it one day, sounds like fun.

I would suggest you go to the Browning website & compare the specs on all the Buckmarks. I have a Buckmark Contour 5.5 bbl SS that weighs 36oz The 7/14 weighs 39 oz. That is not considered heavy for a target pistol.

BTW the weight difference is primarily in the barrel. The full length rib does not weigh much.

I hope you find a Buckmark that suits you. I have owned Rugers, High Standards, S&W 41's & a Pardini SP & consider the Buckmark a helluva good buy & it eats just about any .22 ammo without a hiccup.:)

Hi Rod, I've also heard the same thing about the ammo as well. The Buck Mark eats up almost any 22cal ammo you can throw at it.

Was hoping my paperwork would have come in on Friday so I could take my baby home....nope....nothing yet. So I did what every other gun lover would/SHOULD do in this case...go and visit her (she's staying at Cabela's in Kanata) ;) just wanted her to know that "daddy" cares and to let her know how anxious I am to get her home :)

seriously though, first chance I get, I'm gonna clean her, oil her (NO THIS IS NOT AN "X" rated post :D ), then take her out to the range. And just to put the ammo theory to the test, I'm gonna buy 3-4 different types of ammo and see how she handles it.

stay tuned for an update fellas !

Ya I read about that easy mod somewhere on another forum. Couple guys were talking about it. They said it was easy to do, and drops the trigger pull down to round 3lbs.
Couple questions;
Have you done it?
Did you notice the difference?
What is the factory trigger pull weight?

Since this gun is a second hand one, I'll have to take it apart, and give it a good oiling. Previous owner didn't clean it last time he fired it. He took good care of it though, since it's a 2 year old gun, because there are no "typical use " typical marks/scuffs/etc", on the barrel or on the receiver either. Also, I could tell he didn't dry-fire it either (no marks at the bore entrance)
