OK, so i know 2 things about this site for sure about making post.....

1. if your gonna ask some questions about your gun, do some of your own research.

so i did just that. From what i could find anything pre 1930, is likely to be a ex Dragoon, which was the predecessor of the 91/30. the research also leads me to the conclusion that my new mosin is from the tula factory. I believe it to be a refurb as i see the [/] stamp in a few places.

2. this post is useless with out pictures!

not the original mag. it has been force matched.

pre war flare??

SOOO... guys how did i do, picked it up for 153.00 during the black friday event at wholesale. i got the last hex, and my friend got the next oldest which was a round receiver 1939.. anyone have anything to add.. have not took it out yet, since its minus 30 out!!!! but i hope to see the groups soon!!!

if anyone has any additional info on this particular example please do share as i am very interested in the history these old guns can tell. has it most likely seen battle???

PS> sorry purist out there.... i did refinish the stock with some tung oil.... wasn't into the cosmo-shelac-tar

Very pretty, and while the purists will bemoan the absence of Soviet era shellac, applied by an indifferent labourer using a dirty brush and bad language, I personally think she cleaned up very well indeed.

The timed screws in the escutcheon are a nice touch, too. Did she come like that?

It did, when i started to give it a light sand the thought of removing the screws crossed my mind, but i figured they probably use RED loctite in Russia and didnt wanna destroy the heads.

im pleased as well thanx

Very nice, indeed... are the numbers matching? Can't see the bolt, butt plate or the floor plate numbers.

I got a 1929 myself, in my Mosin collection, though the stock has yet to be refinished.

She looks good, is she counter bored ?

im not sure..... i dont have a means of checking.... would a 7.62x39 or x51 have the same bullet?? i seen some videos of guys taking a cartridge and placing the projectile into the muzzle????? but im not sure how to check...

got a tip for me???

i appears that the bayo, and butt plate match the receiver, but the mag has another number crossed out and the matching one stamped on ( heard this referred to as forced match) and the bolt has matching number, but looks as though it had been maybe buffed at one time and re stamped. but im not 100% on that... the bolt does have tula stamps on it tho!

this is my first mosin, so im just trying to get a handle on ALL the info that outs there.

The bayo matches? Sheesh, you really got lucky.

I remember after getting my first one (1942 Izzy), I spent a long time on the 62x54r website just taking in all info. Then I caught the bug. Now I have the ex-dragoon, a Polish '55 M44, and a P/U sniper on the way. Always looking to pick up more standard 91/30s, too...

I picked up a 36 Tula hex a couple weeks earlier when guns were 10 percent off. Pretty similar in price, the bluing and machine work on mine is excellent, unfortunate counter bore though, but she may still shoot well enough. I can't believe the quality difference between the hex rifles and the wartime production Izzy's I own.
