My First Quarter Inch Group...

Rifle : shot off sand bags
Remmy 700 5R milspec, unmodified except for a reduced trigger pull.
NXS 5.5-22X56mm
ATS rings
Kyle Precision 20MOA base

Load :
CCI BR2
Remmy nickle plated brass
41.6 Gr Varget = 2430 FPS
Berger 168 HPBT match @ 2.930" / just touching the lands

Of course, 2 years ago when I started this project I had no idea what I was doing. Its been a hell of a learning process. Thankfully there are websites and Forums such as CGN to help newbs like myself figure it all out.

I hope to repeat this in the very near future...mabey next time I make it out to the range. The load testing continues...

Good job.

Boy thats a nice light load. You are lucky. My .308 didn't start shooting the way I wanted it to until I was at 46 gr Varget with a 155 SMK.

Thanks for the details on your system. How long did it take to be ok with your reloading. I am using factory ammo for 2 1/2 years and have yet to shoot .25moa(took a few month to get .5moa and a few years to get .32moa at 300 yards). I dont have as nice a scope as you but am doing the best I can. Wondering how difficult it would be to get into precision loading for the .223 and .308. Do you feel the factory match ammo is sub-par to the reloads you make? How light a trigger are you running? I do like the picture!:D Cheers

Thanks for all the comments, I will post more pics as the shooting progresses. I am currently working up a new load that will stay with-in the 2.800" COL and hopefully be faster to improve range and wind deflection.

cycbb486 :

Pentax K10D, 33mm, 1/180, F8, ISO100, shot with a strobe and multiple reflectors.

Grizz :

Yes its a center to center group measurement. I just RE-measured the extreme group size of the bullet holes to be 0.554" minus 0.308" = 0.246"

Icedragonmx :

I don't know what the trigger is set at, I lowered it as far as it would go while still remaining in safety. NOT LOW ENOUGH. I would say its probably still at 4-5 lbs. It was really really heavy from factory. Next upgrade is a new trigger.

Only about the first 100 rounds down the tube were factory, best group was about 1.5". FGMM goes for about $2.00 a shot, so I was not interested in match grade ammo. I went straight to reloading and haven't looked back. I know that my reloads are better and less expensive than regular ammo. Not sure if its better than match grade ammo because I have never tired it.

I would say it took me about 6 months before I had some idea of what was really going on. Reloading is kind of an art. So many variables to consider. But its been alot of fun. The stars may have aligned for this group to happen...after all, its the single best group I have ever shot.

Not all triggers will adjust without some internal work. But you certainly don't need to spend a lot of bucks replacing the trigger. I will alter/adjust your present trigger to a crisp 2 to 2.5 pounds for $50 which includes mailing your trigger group back to you. I've done a few hundred of them. I just need the trigger group with the spring and sear that will fall out when you remove the pins.

Excellent shooting ( and spectacular picture ! ) mate. The target is a keeper - I have a couple of 1/4 MOA groups with my TRG and one just outside ( 0.288 ) with my Kimber and I actually framed the targets as it was soooo hard to do :)

Once again, great shooting !

I am using FGMM right now and at two bucks a shot I am VERY interested in learning to reload. I was just wondering if it will be possible to increase the potential of the rifle using reloads even more or if it is just a savings in cost. I guess I'll have to get working on that angle:redface:

Guntech's offer is a great one. My trigger is set at 3lbs and I find that too much for the real precision work. I dont think you find a better offer than that! I am amazed that you are doing so good with such a heavy trigger:eek: Nice system for sure! Congrats again on a awesome group!

Very nice picture and great shooting. You are well on your way now.

If you find that the groups vary quite a bit from day to day, consider bedding the action and stock. That can really help with consistency.

Let me know...
