So, I am pretty excited. :dancingbanana: My tax return came in and I was able to buy my first rifle. I was pretty torn about where to go with my first rig, but I decided what I really wanted to do was long distance target shooting. Obviously I am gonna start at 100, but as I get more accurate I wanna work my way back. I called up frontier and man they were fast to ship the rifle. I definitely gotta give em 2 thumbs up!!!

what I finally settled on.

Remington 700 5r (in 308)
warne tactical 20 MOA rail
Burris XTR rings (low)
Bushnell 6-24 50MM FFP tactical scope
Harris BR-S bipod

and now for the pics

and a couple with the scope

The scope is pretty close to the barrel. I cannot attach the covers Bushnell supplied to the scope, there just isn't the required clearance. I want to look into getting some flip up covers, but in the interim I may break out the dremel to cut a small grove in the covers so it fits without torquing the scope

One last picture with the bipod

I've attached everything hand tight (nothing crazy tight, just snug) Is there anything I should worry about other then making sure she is good and clean before I head out to the range this weekend?

I tried boresighting the scope, and to be frank, I was kinda shocked at how the scope was pretty much lined right up with what I saw thru the barrel (was looking about 30 feet away). I'll try a quick boresight at 50M at the range before I start shooting.

Cripes I am excited, come on weekend!!!!! :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Nice setup......enjoy

If you haven't, use locktite on the screws for the base, and tighten it up good, you don't want it moving on you.

If your scope is in position, for eye relief, you might consider using locktite on those screws as well, just make sure all is level and where you want it, it should be good to go....

Enjoy...

k, I'll get some locktite, should I go for red or blue? does it just need the weak stuff? or should I get stronger stuff?

I like your scope choice. Great scope without going broke. Lots of good options and great value.

Thanks, P&D had a GREAT price on it (100$ cheaper then other places I could find). Sadly when I got it I saw a small scratch on the finish. I could be a #### and go back to them, but I don't really see the point. I don't wanna wait without a scope for a small cosmetic flaw (maybe a 1-2 CM scratch in the finish).

I was originally looking for the vortex PST 6-24 but that one isn't available until June - July :(

Very nice looking rig! The fact that it's not a Savage or Stevens is refreshing.

lol, I am not gonna lie. I SERIOUSLY considered a savage 10FCP (macmillan stock) they cost about the same as the 5r, but in the end, I believe the action and barrel are worth more on the 5r and stock of the 10FCP macmilan was worth more. For that reason I believe the action and barrel combination from the factory may be beter with the remi (and is ultimately why I chose the 5r)

It will be a great rifle and one you can actually customize later too.

Why did you want an FFP scope?

just for the tacticool feature (I can admit it) sure I'd like to spew some BS about being able to make adjustments regardless of what zoom I am using ion the scope, but we all know that it was for the tacticool aspect. I figure as I grow with the rifle, the scope is more then good enough to get me started, but 2 years down the road, if I find out i hate it, It isn't like I am walking away from a nighforce or any other crazy expensive scope.

I'm gonna be getting an r700 sps tactical in about a month. Could you maybe give me a breakdown on pricing? Rail, rings, scope and such? I feel pretty lost when it comes to the scope. I have no idea what to look for. Guess I'll have to just bite the bullet and ask some questions at the local shop.

Where abouts are you located? Make sure you are talking to a reputable dealer and person. Lots of sales people can just talk in circles enough to confuse people into thinking they know a lot about scopes.

the following is based on memory...

the rail, I wanna say it was 120$
rings where about 45$
scope 948$
bipod 94$

CGN vendors are your best frind. Buy out of province, ans save the PST :)
FWIW both frontier and P&D both shiped very quickly. I would def buy from both of them again...

I'll probably end up getting it at reliable gun in vancouver. They are pretty friendly and for the most part seem interested in giving the best info they can, depending on how busy it is.

So can i get a decent scope for 400?

I ordered the same rifle a couple weeks ago (from frontier) and had it at the range weekend before last. Left the range with a big smile on my face. You're really going to enjoy it I think. I find it nicely balanced.
Shipping was really fast, ordered Tuesday, received Friday (just north of Calgary). I also ordered the same Warne 20moa base. Everthing was tightened using Locktite blue. I also picked up the HS precision detachable mag kit as I am not a big fan of the hinged floorplate, installed easily but haven't tried it out yet. I did strip the rifle down and gave it a good cleaning inside and out.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

Excellent set up - I'm sure you will enjoy it. I had a R5 that I sold to my buddy to make room for another purchase and it was a sweet rifle ( as he reminded me when we were at the range last week ! ).

for under 400, look into the Bushnell Elite 3200's (What I've got). I think the 4200's go over 400, but they're good as well. For low-cost. Buuut, there is definately a difference between a $300 scope, and a $2000 scope.... suggestion: Don't shoot a friends gun with a $2000 scope on it, unless you have 2000 sitting around to buy your own after.
