This might be my 4th or 5th trip with these guys, My father and I are the only ones with rifle so we usually get put in some less opportunistic locations. This particular day my coyote came out of the woods about 60-70 yds away. She was pretty tired at this point, had been running for over 2 hours. with bitter cold and 50 k winds, it took me a few seconds to get my safety off on my rifle, frozen solid. No big deal, the coyote wasn't concerned with me, just worried about he 2 hounds on her ass. She stopped to look back at the dogs at 60 yds and bang.... not the cleanest shot, we had to follow up with the 12 G but dead none the less.
Then the party moved down the road to a point of land with a wooded peninsula, they coyotes had to either head to sea (which they often do) or cut across some fields and home back to the woods behind us. The rest of the coyotes were shot in under an hour, the youngest (12-14 ish) hunter got one and the new guy (wearing ski-doo suit) got two. I really need to get me a sled so I can get to these locations! The young guy also takes credit for finishing off mine.

Inly a few days left of the hound season... I hope to get out one more time this year.

quite impressive, they seems pretty big. Are the hounds hunting others species or they do coyotes only ? Is is something hard to teach a dog to track coyotes ? I have an adult doberman who realy likes wild animals, we lost him running at deers twice for many hours, was wondering if it's something that an adult dog can learn....

These particular hounds chase Coyotes and foxes, I don't know if there is any training, my experience is strictly with beagles and labs. Beagles just chase bunnies naturally, but I guess they can also be trained on deer.

Nothing better than the sound of hounds and smell of gun powder !.I've hunted with hounds for both deer and yotes for about 25 yrs,I'll give it up when they pry my cold dead hands from my rifle or dog leash

My dad's neighbors run coyote/wolf hounds. This sounds a little odd, but they put the dog in a 45gal drum with some deer scent. Roll the barrel around the yard, then let him out. That dog won't go near a deer scent after that!:D

Not at all suggesting you try that with your doberman, as he may see things differently.;)

Funny...my neighbors hounds usually end up in a barrel after I find them chasing the deer or our cattle. ;) :)

Guys...if you hunt with hounds, please control your dogs. Some guys around our farm think that they have every right
to release their hounds and chase coyotes off our property. Pretty hard for me to call in coyotes, when there are hounds chasing them around our farm.

Great stuff Bill C68!!! The dogs must make it exciting! How do you keep up with the dogs??? I imagine the coyote must have lots of speed, with dogs at his heels!!! Its something that I haven't seen around these parts. Anyway, keep it up, they are tough fellows to hunt, there's no worry of wiping them out.
