.... shooting further then 300yds. I had the chance today to shoot at 600m, and it was an educational experience.
The good: my 168grs held 3.5" vertical.
The bad: wind was blowing them around a fair bit. Not that that bothers me, since I am embarrassingly inexperienced at that range, but it was interesting to see how much of a difference it makes. I had shot at 300m earlier in the day, and made some nice 3-shot groups under 2", but that was nothing compared to 600m. I have some 185 grainers on order, but will have to wait a while before I have the chance to make a load and test it out.

Congrats on getting out and stretching your rifle's legs a bit. Holding 3.5" of vertical a 600m is really good - that's only going to happen if your rifle is working well, your scope is working well, and you are firing good shots. Well done.

Having the bullets being blown left and right on the target is not a bad thing at all, in fact it's the whole reason why long range shooting is so challenging and rewarding. With a good accurate setup like you have, it is now very easy to see (on the target) the effects of the wind at the instant you broke your shot. As you continue to shoot you'll obviously be doing everything you possibly can in order to put each bullet into the centre of the target - you'll see what the wind flags are doing, what the mirage (if visible) seems to be indicating, perhaps consult a wind chart (I like the ones with pictures of flags or mirage and the wind deflection in MOA), put your estimated correction on your sights and break your shot. Then you get to see on the target how accurate your wind call was. Good or bad, plot your shot and the wind you used; the next shot around, use *all* of the information you have (which now includes already-fired shots) to decide on the best choice of windage for your next shot. Lather rinse and repeat... but be warned, the highs and the lows of this game are highly addictive!
