From the 2014 Bullpup Convention in Kentucky:

First impressions?

This thing is tiny. Like if you've ever handled a full sized Tavor, then a CTAR, it feels like a big jump. This feels like the same kind of jump from a CTAR to even smaller. If the TAR-21 is a rifle length barrel in a carbine length package, this is a carbine length barrel in a PDW package.

I don't know why the heck IWI decided to demo this rifle to the public with an AAC flash hider on the end of it. An A2 brake would be better! But I could definitely see putting a heavy brake on the end of that 13 inch barrel causing some nasal vacuuming.

The mag release is way lighter than I thought. There's a decent amount of travel to it, so you're not going to bump it and drop a mag, but its easy to press with an index finger. Easier than most AR mag releases I've used.

The bolt release sticks out less than a regular Tavor, but is similarly sized. So now you're less likely to accidentally hit your own bolt release (say with a sling. I've watched it happen!)

The trigger guard is tiny now! I kind of liked being able to grab on the vertical section of my Tavor as a carry-hold, even if IWI says I shouldn't. The front bar on this is not something you would grab onto.

Now the kicker: when will we see a semi-auto for civvie purchase?

This is a bit of a rude answer, but I'm going to say it anyways: when they feel they've sold enough SAR-21s and it's time for something new.

Looking at some of the internals of this baby, the conversion process to semi-only could be done today. I was told at the time that the rifle I show was an all Israeli rifle, but looking back at my footage: the damned thing is stamped as produced in Harrisburg. Of course there's NFA laws for US sales, so IWI is probably trying to figure out how to deal with that, either by including the tax stamp in the purchase, or extending the barrel.

Would I replace my Tavor with one? Honestly, no. NR status is a big thing.

Would I add one to my safe? In a heartbeat. I'd be really excited to get a 9mm kit for this thing too!

Any idea when a civ version will be available?

Hah! This is most excellent joke you have made comrade! Is funny, because the answer to your question . . . is right above your question! Yes?

IWI reps gave no indication of plans for a civilian semi-only variant of the X95. I would hazard a guess and say that with the SAR-21 selling strongly and the Galil Ace about to be launched, it will likely be a few years before IWI US diverts attention back to this little bullpup.

That is awesome man. How's the recoil on that thing? It looked a little snappier from the video.
I don't care if it is restricted, I want that rifle, I love how compact it is. It wouldn't replace my full size Tavor either, but it would be an awesome compliment to it.

I look forward to their release. Now if we could only find a way to elect a government with the cojones to get rid of the arbitrary firearms classification system in Canada. The X95 looks like it was born to be the ideal ATV box gun.

So how does the girth of it feel? I don't expect it to be as slim as the T97NSR, but Im thinking 1/2 way in between that and the Tar-21 style Tavor would be great!

Do you mean like the width of the firearm across? It's actually almost the same as a standard Tavor, on account of the shared receiver insert.

Part of why I was confused by IWI putting an AAC flash hider on there. No real braking or recoil adjustment. I'd have rather shot it with a standard A2 to be honest. It's still only a .223, but its a short (ish) barrel and a long stroke piston. So more bounce than a C7 for sure!

Who is going to bring these in.?

Technically Marstar already brought one in for themselves: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1121324-Full-auto-Tavors
