Use #4 buckshot to lower the overpenetration risk. Some stiff 3" turkey loads would be nice as well.

I really like that setup with the full stock ,ghost rings and simple and clean although I do love a nice bayonet. The C7/M7 is OK but the new ZT/Strider one is 10 times better but also about 4 or 5 times the price.

Shotguns are a better choice than a rifle if your worried about over penetration. They can also handle slugs for door breaching etc.

You tried and failed to keep it simple. I have a roughly similar setup and won't bash your config, but I do question your definition of simple. What would you consider complex, tacticool, or decked out?
 
I like the simplicity of it.

Man, I was totally expecting to see a rubber tongue and gene simons makeup on a shotgun. What a letdown.
 
I find the side saddle works v well with my 590. Keeps em right where you need em.

Contrary to mfg. instructions, a heat shield is easy to install on the 590-A1 with ghost rings.
