My KSG arrived today! *new pics with keltec angled foregrip added 7/9/12*

My KSG arrived 2 days ago. An opinion you can ignore if you like is that that I wanted to keep the whole rifle un-bulky. That's why it was designed bullpup in the first place. So to avoid damaging the rail, simply don't put a handle on.

I put a single strip of Ergo rail covers, and you wouldn't believe how comfortable it is with just that. And nothing extra sticks out to catch on anything. I'm only adding irons to the top as well. So the whole package is very small.

Shoots like a dream too!

my latest accessory for the ksg arrived today. here it is and also a pic of it mounted on the ksg. now i just have to get to the range and sight it in!
sorry for crappy iphone pics!

well here are a couple more crappy iphone pics of the ksg. i remmoved the magpul afg2 and put on the keltec angled foregrip. not bad but seems a little bit more slippery when compared to the magpul one. i like the feel though.

what looks better to you guys?

aaaaaand this is why i held off on buying one (after seeing the SU-16 receiver failures).
i dont care what handgrip 'clearance' issues there are that may be aggravating it, the point is that on a combat shotgun the rail should be able to take some abuse -- and i dont consider putting a plastic foregrip on it and holding it 'abuse' at all.

i was initially excited about them, but thank god i didnt jump on the KSG and SU-16 bandwagons - since theyre both turning out to be expensive toys that break from mild normal use. ill stick with my all-steel 870s.
doesnt kel-tec have a product testing department?

^apparently customers that will forgive them anything as long as their product looks cool and has lots of plastic rails to stick Magpul accessories on.

if my rail broke from putting a plastic vertical grip on it id be making a beeline to the dealer to get my money back.

well as long as you are happy with what you purchased and enjoy u sing it. mine hasnt broken on me and im not too concerned since kel tec will make it right. they apparently have good customer service.

the gun itself isnt too pricey either so its not the end of the world if a little piece of plastic breaks off. besides nothing out there is perfect not matter what it costs. theres always going to be someone that has a problem with something that is manufactured, whether its a 1k shotgun or a car that costs over 100k.

in the end its your choice and since it bothers you that much, you didnt buy one. that works out great since it gives other people a better chance to purchase one since they are still hard to get a hold of! :)

btw, havent there been issues with the 870 from other end users as well?

Uhh...thats lame. You know thats lame right?

How sill does this sound? "The stock breaks if you shoulder the weapon while firing it...so just don't shoulder it, or fire it".

Its ok to admit that a plastic rail sucks. Even if its a plastic rail on the new gun you just bought. That said, I want one too. But I will be waiting for Keltec to fix it.

glad to be of service :)

870s have been around since 1951 and i dont recall ever hearing of a single receiver breaking.

love em or hate em, at this point it is fact that Kel-Tec designs and builds guns without putting them through adequate testing.
so far its just the rails on the KSGs breaking - but people havent had a chance to put them through their paces yet. given Kel-Tec's track record i predict more serious failures down the road.

i truly wish you guys luck, and hope im wrong - since there is nothing worse than shelling out hard-earned money for something and then being disappointed in your purchase. im just glad i didnt pull the trigger on one myself.

Lineofsight received his KSG a few weeks ago or so. Of course I checked it out.

I actually like it. It's compact and points nicely. The trigger is very good as well. I like how it loads underneath much like the 870 which I'm very familiar with. Overall the quality felt pretty decent. I didn't take it apart but the initial feeling wasn't one of a cheap gun. I would buy one.

I do however think they should have done the bottom rail like that of the RFB where it's a metal add on or have it come with a metal bottom rail. That being said go for the angled grip if going to use a grip. Lots of guys in the states also reporting broken rails.

A couple of things about the KSG I noticed.

1) You can't do a single shot load on the fly. Or "tactical" reload when the tube magazine is empty. Ie slam one in the ejection port and feed it through without going to the mag tube first. Simply the KSG ejects out the bottom and not the side. The flip side to this is of course that the KSG is ambi or lefty friendly.

2) For the 870 a lot of us for work use a cheat. We do our mechanical and safety inspection. But after putting the fore end forward and squeezing the trigger, we then put the safety on and load 4 for duty. When a police shotgun is stored in the car it has an empty chamber and 4 in the tube mag. Now what this trick of not resetting the trigger does is allow you to jump out and rack the shotgun to load it without using the action bar to release the fore end. It's common to jump out of the car and try to rack the shotgun only to have it stick. The WTF then oh ya the action bar usually is the reaction. Well with the 870 you can do this trick and have the safety on. With the KSG you can not activate the safety if you do this. Which means you're not going to use this trick. If for any reason the fore end ever slipped and loaded a round the safety wouldn't be on. Not a good idea. Plus the safety wouldn't be on when you went to chamber a round using this trick and the KSG.

Something else to consider. A semi auto shotgun will get off a lot more rounds without the loss of accuracy by having to manually use the fore end to load another round. Semi auto is the way to go. Police only use the 870 because it's tried/true, cheap and Cops are like teenagers who break everything they come in contact with. Mostly it's cheap.

I haven't fired the KSG. Just a quick look at one. At almost half the price of the UTS-15 it's something I will eventually consider. The compactness, the trigger and the amount of ammo it holds are all very nice features. I do like it better than the 870.
