Believe it or not, this build has been almost 4 years in the making. I got a bit done here and there over time - getting the stock made took the longest. I used a top maker but he took 2 years to get it done (not because it takes 2 years but because he was very backed up with work). The blanks for butt and forestock were from a $600 piece of full fiddleback extra fancy english walnut aged 25 years. Barrel is 31" octagonal. Case hardening was done by Oskar Kob. and all metal work was done by Jason Spencer.

I think it turned out rather nice. It is D&T for a soule-type sight, which I do have. It's also got a stnadard dovetail for a front sight, but I haven't decided what to use for that yet...? Hopefully something period looking and removable or folding so as not to interfere with the 3X malcolm scope.

Antique made in 1872, cal .45-70.

Yeah, believe it or not, he's out in the maritimes. Not bad either - I think it was about $250 plus tax and ship.

Can you PM me his info i have a few Revolver frames i want done and need to talk to someone who does this kinda work.
Can he do reblueing to?
I really like your rifle its the best one i ever seen.
Thats a neat Scope to ,

I don't know if Oskar does blueing. Oskar's number is 902-587-2257. For my money, bar none, the best prep and blueing man in Canada is Jason Spencer at 613-825-5463.

For whatever reason, none of the best craftsmen in Canada seem to be on the internet.

Great Thanks.
Alot of older guys dont have Comps.

Hmmm - I've been debating trying to case harden a frame, but if this guy's capable of doing that kind of work in Canada, I'm tempted to contact him.

Just confirming - it was roughly $250 +Ship/handling for the case hardening on that rifle frame, already prepped elsewhere?

Thats a great looking rolling block, and an interesting scope. Where did you get the frame and what kind of scope have you installed?
I sold Oskar a 20 Gage Rolling Block a while back, but didn't know he was that good. I can't wait to see how it will turn out.

The action was a Swedish military Rolling block I got from Tradex almost 4 years ago. The scope is a Leatherwood Malcolm 3X. They are newly made in the style of the originals.

Claven that is one beautiful rifle! Let us know how it shoots at the range. What kind of ball park load do you plan to work up for it?

I'm leaning towards a 415gr cast lead pill over H4198 in the trapdoor range wrt pressures for a starting point. Tumble-lubed with Alox.

I use a 350 grain pill in my 50/70 rolling block. It sits in front of 27-29 grain of 4198 and toilet paper. Gets me 1350-1375 ft/sec on the chrony. Shoots like a "laser" :) at least out to a 100 yards with 4-5 inch groups freehand and with the iron sights all day long. Can hit a moving field mouse at 25 + yards. I figure if it can take a buffalo a mouse should be no problem. :D
