My Lefty ABolt

Nice one Rhys. Hunting fallow deer would be high on my list if I ever was travelling to hunt. I’m envious.

Cheers DG, this morning would of been amazing for an international guest to witness and hunt this rutting buck!!

stay in touch, i want to guide in near future free range fallow and sambar.

theres something about this Rifle, when the time comes, normally im bouncing around the place and spray shots, in the final moments of these last few hunts, everything has been fairly relaxed and on point- crosshair falls on the spot and boom, i dont feel the recoil like other guns, the noise is sweet and not too loud, an the animals typically fall over!?

really happy fellas
it might be that tad more weight in the rifle an the stock suiting? either way...wrapped

I should mention fellas, i may be geting a few extra FPS with this load now as i soaked the bolt in diesel and the smell is quite strong still LOL

Very nice!

That rifle in that caliber is the one I wanted most as a teenager. I have a well worn mid-90's Browning catalog to prove it lol.

Never did end up getting one.. as I found a good deal on a LH A-Bolt Medallion in 7mm that I sold shortly thereafter as it was too nice to drag through the woods.

ha ha mate the old Browning catologues! i also had/have on here, that i dragged with me everywhere, i can vaguely remember loving the look of the micro medallion and loving the oher names assosciated with the Guns... slipped my 32 year old mind now but id love to find that book and all the scribbled on calibres i would have them all in!

Browning , somethng about em...

nice story mate, a left hand 7mm that is too nice to drag through the woods..... take that back :) unless of course, you have another browning

My dad gave me an Abolt when I was 14. I still have it 30 years later. Now wears a McMillan stock. The feel of the action after being used for 30 years is like butter. The bolt handle is polished to a high shine due to carry.
WhelenLad, you have found your rifle. Look forward to many years of using it.

This one took a high shoulder shot an dropped but sat up, another put it down, bot h150gr FN exited from around 100m- 150m. thought i might of finally caught up to one of them, but not yet... lookin more likely for a sambar!

happy days with the A bolt, i have a rest for a few days, will confirm zero is on point an go out monday.

cheerin

nothing too much to bang on about the Abolt this week, however i will add some photos this weekend of my past few weeks with the Lefty.

lemme say it feels so right that i feel like a gimp when cycling a RH rifle! 1 month V 16 years ....loving it..

will also ask in regards to QD mounts........ how da hell do they do their thing, finger tight so to speak? mines holding zero aswell as it did on the Mossberg patriot in NZ for 6 months!

as much as i wasnt a fan of them, all for it... ideally a set of irons ontop to utilise would be sensible..

I ever get down under, I'll look you up!
Fallow and sambar on my bucket list! Red deer, rusa and sika too!
Couple of nice looking Fallow bucks there!

And yes, a good left handed rifle will spoil any hunter/shooter/rifleman in his "right" mind!
While the A Bolt and A Bolt II have the hinge plate and detachable magazine, that some do (or do not) care for, to me the big advantage was being able to top load that magazine without taking it out of the rifle. An option I do miss on the X Bolt. As I carry a spare magazine in a pouch on my belt, so it isn't that big a deal to swap magazines quickly.
I do like the way they handle and balance well when shouldered. Never really noticed the weight when hunting with them, as they handled so nicely. Mine were in the 280 Rem, so not much difference in recoil with the 160 and 162 gr bullets I was loading in it, compared to your loads. Mine would produce sub-MOA accuracy so I was very happy with their performance. Never had one of my harvested animals complain either! LOL

I do warn people, that once you get used to shooting a left handed rifle, you really do not want to go back to a right handed rifle.

Black Ram, for sure man, e sure to PM me on here if you are getting keen to head Down Under, i can definatly help with Sambar and Fallow..... there is Reds nearby but im not tooo good for access yet but am working on it..

I hear what you're saying in regards to Left an going back to right! I will be using the .222 rem for some fox shooting this winter and it feels so weird being small too! i may have to look into a LH little pest gun!

The magazines in the A bolts r great, top or pull em out complete, its good for truck hunters tho i used to say... matters little to me if i have to single cycle them like my kimber or pull the box like the abolt.

speaking of which, Whats best way to keep the magazine rust free??
