I just got my Luger back from Dlask.
It used to have a 5" 7.62 Mauser barrel on it.
I found the ammo to be expensive, and hard to find so it being a mixed parts gun, I decided to make it practical.

I had Joe put on a 110mm barrel in 9mm, and Russ did a quick polish, and re-blue.
I just got some new grips for it in perfect shape. The old ones were re-checkered, and not done well. They wound up a bit thinner as well.
When I took them off I found the wood looked very nice from the inside, so I might just make them smooth, to bring out the beautiful curly grain in them.

It looks like a brand new gun! I am very pleased with the work. They only charged me $60 extra to blue the whole thing.

I will now have some 7.62 ammo, shells, bullets, and dies for sale soon.
The old barrel had to be lathed off, and is now useless.

It's going to be a fun shooter.

Enjoy!

is it feasible for someone without a prohib licence to buy a luger and have it rebarreled to 106mm and reregistered as restricted?

The 5" barrel was an almost new replacement. There are very few parts on the gun that match the frame.

The Dlask barrel does appear a little different in colour, but you can't see it under normal light.

I think you can have a gunsmith, or retailer buy the prohib for rebarreling if you don't know someone grandfathered.

I can't remember exactly what I paid for it, but the new barrel was $220, and the bluing was $60. Grips cost $60. I think I paid around $1200? It was in quite good condition to start with, but there was some minor pitting from sweat, and a few light scratches on the left cheek piece.

It looks great now though. I really liked I could get the 110mm length on it.
Looks more like it should.

I hope that the 7.62 Mauser barrel was not the original....

Unfortunately there are going to be a lot of barrels meeting the same fate over the next 20 years of so. Even with 12(7) it limits what can be done with it.

To change the designation of the pistol to restricted, doesn't the barrel have to be destroyed or exported (with a paper trail) or can it become part of a gunsmiths inventory?

short barrel is a prohibited device... 25 or 32 caliber are not... Nevertheless, CFO will be reluctant to change the status unless you do some modification to the gun making it difficult to change the caliber.

As I understand the current state of affairs, .25 and .32 pistols cannot be reclassified to restricted. Period. A short barrelled pistol not being .25 or .32 can be rebarrelled, and reclassified.
