I had my new M&P 9mm out at the range tonight and I have mixed feelings about this gun.

Overall feel of the the gun was good with the factory installed medium backstrap in my fairly large hands.

The novak sights were very good for quick and consistant target aquisition.

The loading of magazines was no easier or difficult than my other 9mm semi auto's, or maybe a little tougher, but they are brand new.

The feeding and ejection of the Wolf 135gr RN lead ammo was flawless.

The recoil was milder then I was expecting from a gun this light. I may even say that it was delightful.

It felt tight and controlled at all times and the accuracy out of the box was about what I expected from a "service" type gun. It's probably as good as my pre B CZ85 or my other Hi Power clone. If it wasn't so busy tonight I would of taken the time to sight it in, but I also had my 12 yr old nephew with me and he wanted to shoot a handgun for the first time.

The trigger: That will take some getting used to. This is the first DAO gun I have tried shooting with at bullseye targets at 20 yds. The trigger pull is substantially more than I'm used to with my CZ or FEG or my Buckmark in SA. It's way more than my DW .357 revolver in SA.

So if I can get used to the trigger, I would say it's a pretty good gun for what I intend to use it for considering it is not really a target gun.

Oh and my nephew loved the shooting and also realized that it is far more difficult to be accurate then he thought.

surprized to hear about such a heavy trigger, I picked up an M&P in 9mm and one of the most impressive things about it was how light the trigger felt (when compared to any of the Glocks or other similar type pistols). I've definitely decided mines a keeper.

You've shot one of the members on here?

Oh. Never mind.

I invited a buddy of mine out to our club last summer during 'family day'.

I said come out, we are having a family shoot day.

He said..........'you're allowed to shoot your family?!?!??'

just don't try a the model in .40S&W.. it will definately spoil your good feelings

maybe you don't know how to shoot? or use lotion instead of gun-oil? the 40 is very soft on the M&P platform.

either way it's tough to claim you know what your talking about until your M&P is at least as dirty and abused as this one:

which belongs to me.

Thank you to everyone that has had some feedback on this handgun. I've been trying to decide for weeks on whether or not to buy this gun. All signs are pointing to yes. I'm still trying to figure out should it be a 9mm or a .40? Also if anyone has pictures of their own please post them, like I said I'm very interested!

I stuck to a 9mm because of the cost to shoot. I have two other 9mm's and figured that going to another caliber would mostly add cost. A fellow CGN'r concurs that I'm shooting targets and plates, not pirates and crooks.

If in the future I want more bang, I will consider .44 mag or .45 gun.

Choose the caliber that you think will have the most advantages, regardless of what caliber others tell you to get.

to each his own I guess.
Could you elaborate just a little more or are we just to guess what you were talking about?

I've been thing about the M&P (in 40S&W no less) as I don't have a "production" gun. Still not sure with the plastic bottom mags I hear can break when you drop them.

I would get the 40S&W because of all the free brass available and I like the bigger holes that a 40 has compared to a 9mm. :D Still not a .45 but... :p

I have heard about the mag issue as well but I have no intention to let mine hit the floor. They will fall gently into my hand. I just like the fact that they are drop free since all my other guns are not.

The gun feels and reacts nice considering it's a plastic frame. I can't speak about .40S&W but I like it in 9mm.

I can't imagine why it would be that much different in .40S&W. So if you're a fan of .40S&W then I would say get it in that size.

I was seriously considering a .40S&W version, but I could not justify adding another caliber to my shooting since right now I do not reload.

I don't have an M&P but I do have two nines (tupperware and Norc) and a .40 (tupperware). I find either nine as pleasant to shoot as my .22 Browning but hate the .40. I shoot all over the place with it.

But that is just me. :(
