Say hello to my abomination.
I'm breaking all of the traditions here but it makes sense to me.
In fact if this works out it might be a trend setting phenomenon.

I've been running a PU mosin nagant sniper for years now and I love the PU optic.
So why not give it a go on the M305?

A Chinese made M14 clone running a reproduction Russian PU sniper optic.
The VOMZ reports I've read (very little information on these) say these are made to the same specifications as the original PU optic. Initial impressions are that the optic does not have as much mass as an original PU optic. Clarity isn't great - but better than an original PU and that thick #4 German reticle and aiming point are very crisp. Obtained from Martin at Corwin Arms - CGN contributer.

I am the first to say these rifle were not built to run big bulky optics to field effectively. I want to see if I can compromise and run this rig at the 2014 BCRA Service Rifle competition with some level of effectiveness.

I'm looking forward to tests in the rain.
Will perform tracking tests as well.

I look forward to reading your hate mail.

Millet Low 1" rings work like a charm
Just enough clearance over the M1 Garand rear sight and even lower profile than the rings that came from Corwin Arms.
You don't really need a cheek riser for this combination because it's comfortable just the way it is.
Added bonus is that Millet rings give you the latitude to adjust windage and lose the worry about having to shim or shave the scope mount and keep your reticle centred.

I'm really starting to like this.......

I'd like to be the first post and say not only does it look great, it is refreshing to see some intelligent modifications like that. It is compact, light weight and very functional for the M305 platform. I don't get it when I see folks put large and heavy glass on an already heavy rifle. The accuracy of these guns IMO doesn't justify high magnifying glass. If I end up putting optics on one of my M305's your route is exactly where I'd be headed. Looks great!

I am using the same on my Steyr Luxus 300 mag with great success and this little scope is very clear and sturdy... JP.

My goodness that Steyr is a beautiful rifle - I'm jealous and green with envy... I see that you're using Burris Zee Rings - Good Choice. I will probably do the same with the M305 shown above.

Yes the PU just makes good sense to me and the price factor is an added bonus - Thanks to Martin at Corwin Arms.
Maybe you guys can fill me in but I was not able to find a comparable optical sight that even comes close to a compact PU without being a red dot.

Initially when I first started running the PU mosin nagant sniper I had some difficulty working with the moving reticle. I adapted eventually and now appreciate the optic even more. What I discovered is that there are benefits to seeing a graphical representation of your sight adjustment in plain view. I do plan on making a Riflechair video segment around this during my evaluation throughout the winter. I want to see how the scope holds up in snow and rain. If it holds I will let you know - if it's crap I will let you know. All I need now is more ammunition........ Grrrrrr

I wanted to hunt with the scope they had in the second WW and this scope is clear and keep is zero, an easy shooting rig to 200 metres, you may have give me and idea for my Socom, it look great on your rifle... JP.

Ditto....and another thumbs up for this setup!

I like it, a nice simple reticle and with fairly clear glass with good value.

I have a POSP that I really like, where did you get the PU? I've been thinking of putting one on a hunting rifle.

love it. only thing I don't like about those lil scopes is the retical doesn't stay centered. I think if they could make a repro that stays centered it would be a very big hit and great seller

Looks really cool, like its almost supposed to be there, the size seems just perfect and being further back it wont get dinged around by the brass as much, very cool sir!

Looks like a nice setup you got there. Funny how you call it an abomination and everyone likes it :p Were you expecting people to dislike it or just wanted a flashy headline?

Actually I was expecting scorn, humiliation, embarrassment, my house to be burnt down, civil disobedience, road blocks and without rule of law.
Sounds like a lot of you are following my brain train of thought here.
