My magnificent .375 Ruger!

You got that right...They won't admit it, of course, but all you gotta do is look at their rifles and you can see the NEW KING envy.

Of course I'm not completely sure that someone from Ruger didn't see Boomers rifle before designing the Alaskan! ;)

Everything that comes along that is a good idea can be improved upon the Alaskan/375 Ruger rifles are a good deal/idea, I just made it better when I modified a 375RUM and extended the iron sight radious with XS ghost ring sights. :p

There is no doubt about it the 375 is a darn good caliber no matter what flavor it is. Mine is a CZ550 and I like it. the rifle will shoot .50 groups with 270gr Barns at 100 all day long.
Like your 375 mine has little felt recoil. The 375 is the one caliber that could serve the 1 gun individual as it is so versatile. Down load it and it makes a good deer rifle, load er up with 300gr solids and you can take cape Buff. That is what I call versatile. The 375 has ballistics similar to a 30/06 what is there not to like about the venerable 375?

The 375 is VERY nice with this one...

I'm glad you noticed .......

Wow you guys are easy to wind up.:p You gentlemen with the Custom RUM's and CT have really cool functional guns I must admit. Everyone chooses there guns to meet there specific needs, I happen to really like my Ruger. Boomer's, Camp's, & S/C .375 are some excellent example's of custom rifles. I am sure that if someday I am to build a custom rifle I will look at this site and gain some ideas from the many poster's pictures of there customs. Anyways gentlemen, you have some fine shootin' irons their. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting pictures of your builds.:)

I wish I had built a custom 375. Then I could hang out with this crowd of cool cats! :p

Actually I have to admit I quite like that Ruger package that the original poster has. I like the finish and sights. That thing looks to be pretty much bomb-proof.

Hansol,

It really does seem to be. A sensible, sturdy package that shoots a capable cartridge. The main benefit to the .375 Ruger, as I understand it - is that it fits a more compact rifle than the H&H.

Jeff,

It's all symantics in the end with these 375's. All of us guys just like getting riled up over who's version is the best (Clearly my classic Taylor wins that one).

I think Boomer's BRNO is the model of practicality in all of this teasing though. But like I said, that Ruger looks like a pretty slick off-the-shelf package if a guy wanted a cheap-ish (price, not quality) 375 that could take the weather no problem.

Well, my Diamondblack Alaskan arrived yesterday from Clay at Prophet River. My purchase of this rifle from Clay was a wonderful experience. :)

First off all, I went to P&D this morning and bought a box of 300 grain Hornady factory round point loads for $73.50. I had mounted a Leupold Compact 3-9X scope last night, so I headed to the range. :)

What an amazing feeling rifle! :)

It has a significant kick, but not as bad as I expected. It seems to be milder than my past Winchester model 70 in .375 H&H and that one was MagnaPorted.

Unfortunately, by the time I "got around to" this particular rifle (seven new-to-me guns to shoot today ) I only had time to fire five rounds. They clustered into a snug little group at 50 yards...the only range I had available today. I'll be back soon with target pics and results of my first handloads... :)

For now, here are pics of the first Diamondblack Alaskan I've seen so far. I really like the subdued look of the matte finish...

Here is a .375 Ruger cartridge next to a .22 short... :D

In all fairness shouldn't you have posted it next to it's parent the H&H mag?

Hansol,

I agree. If I were going to Africa, or somewhere else remote I'd take a .375 H&H for the ammo availability. In my case, I will reload exclusively for it, and was able to buy this rifle for less than I would a .375 H&H, which I used to have in a model 70. I like this Ruger better than that model 70. ;)
