My Match Fee Formula

Nick, What do you think of my original reason for the post, of some kind of formula to calculate match fees ? with some room for clubs to add a bit more $ for covering any extra expenses.... :D

I think the formula is helpful. I've put on a couple of matches and setting the price for it was a bit wishy washy.

I do believe that the match fee should be one of the last considerations of planning a match though. In my mind, the match fee should JUST cover expenses unless the match is trying to raise funds for one cause or another.

I understand that the fees have to be higher than in most disciplines because there is an enormous amount of effort required to plan, build, ran and clean up a match. I feel that workers (that work an apprciable amount of the day) should not have to pay. Given the high level of person-hours, that can chew into match revenue in a big way very quickly.

I'll be contacting my local BB instructor and seeing if I cna blow the dust off.

I still don't think he heard you Pat :)

But in all fairness, match fees are going to vary based on the range/md running the match. There is a free market here, if folks don't like the match fees, don't shoot! (leaves more slots for the rest of us!)

The formula is a great way for the OP to evaluate if the match is worth it to him, but its no way for a MD to price a match.

I'd hate to see it get to the point where only those who can afford the match fees get to compete. Our match fees and membership rates should realize that we do have a mixed group of people who compete and we don't want to end up as an elitist group, there is room for everyone. As long as the match directors keep the fees reasonable and provide good value we shouldn't really have to do anything. I would rather see the fees based on what the matches provide to the shooters, water, lunch etc. rather than round count. Let's maybe try to boost the fun factor and the social aspects rather than the round counts. Maybe encourage some comeraderie instead of those that show for high round counts and shoot and scoot.

I agree however I have cutback the number of matches I shoot and also how far I have to drive so anything more than 1 hrs drive I dint go any more match fee ammo cost gas, beer and wings not to forget, it all adds up
