After following the jeep thread I thought it might be interesting to show my milsurp vehicle.

This is a 1965 CJ750 Motorcycle. It is a clone of a Russian M72, which was a clone of a BMW R-71. The bike was built in a Chinese munitions plant. It was restored in civilian dress so its military past is not very prominent....The only thing that is still in the original army green is the sidecar brake lever.
I have had the bike for about 5 years and have it insured year round. It is one tough and reliable bike. Aside from vibration issues causing things to shake loose and broken rear spokes its posed no mechanical problems. The only problem is getting anywhere because so many people want to talk to me about it...

Cheers. Steve.

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. I understand that a lot of the parts for the Russian M-72 interchange but I can't say about the BMW.
Heres a picture that I found.

Great looking machine. I've seen badging kits to make your CJ look like it's BMW granddaddy. What are they worth now, around $5000 with a sidecar?

I got mine around 5 years ago so you would have to make some inquires to the link I posted but I think you are in the ball park.

Cheers. Steve.

Shiny! I like that it's a flat head. I have a '67 KMZ K750 very similar. It's all in Soviet Red.... Only 28km so far. Funny that the first bike I ever had with reverse happens to be a 1967 copy of a 1938 with a flathead engine.... I love these bikes!

does anyone import these into canada ?

or is it something a guy has to import himself?

for some reason i have this motor cycle stuck in my brain ......... i might find i own one in a few months

That motorcycle was built by several diffeent companies under different names.

The only company that still makes it calls it the Ural; you can check out their website at: www.imz-ural.com.

They list two dealers in BC; Shails Motorcycles in Langley, and SWM Adventure Motorsports in Kelowna.

A friend of mine has one and loves it. Just as good off road as it is on the highway; it's basicly a street legal ATV, only better.

Hope this helps.
