I remember when we first started 3 gun,....we used sks rifles and a few other milsurps,..it was fun.

then the next thing ya know...everyone was using an AR.

Love my Russian SKS but have had issues with it from the start. FTF on last round, which has somewhat been resolved but still happens ever few mags and slamfiring last time I took it out.

It's probably a combination of previous wear + fouling in the chamber and firing pin channel. Also, some mags are poorly limited and can cause last round chambering issues.

If you can't resolve those problems, buy another SKS and use the current SKS as a parts gun, or sell off the parts and recoup most of the cost of another SKS.

Here's a few pics of a 1953 Izhevsk laminate stock refurb, all-matching, mint. This one consistently gave me sub-3 inch groups of 5 at 50 metres--completely unmodified.

It will be interesting to see the value of the SKS if/when they make the list.

I'm fairly certain that the only reason it didn't was because of the indigenous population and everyone using them for hunting and/or bush guns. Old Billy said on camera why they didnt take it too, but you can't see the video unless you become a paid member of that gun news reporting website, whatever it's called.

Simple mods

Here's a pic of my 'old' '51 Tula (sold this March-2020 :( ) with a Barska scope/mount pkg. I got 2-3" groups with that at 50yds and about 6" at 180yds. Aside from this, I had drilled extra vents in the gas tube and 'squared' the ejection port about 1/2" back (this got the cases falling about 8-10-feet at 3 o'clock) and added a butt pad for increased LOP.
I now have a '51 in Tapco that does about the same with irons, at all distances. (my range only goes to 180) I've only had it out for about 200 rounds or so, just bought end of Sept. And I haven't done any mods yet . . . But plan to do all except the scope pkg . . . maybe. On both rifles I painted the sights with White enamel w-Yellow Hi-liter.

The second pic is with the 'Old' SKS at 50yds *(with Irons-not scope-12-28-buck)*. The fourth pic is the Tapco at 50yds. I use all the space I can so the 'Black' list on Left is the Legend of the 'marks' on holes. The 'Green' numbers is the sequence of the shots. Those posters cost 0.50 at $Store  NOTE - Old target shot w/ CZ Milsurp; Tapco w/ Chinese Milsurp.
The last pic is the sight picture of the Tapco '51.

All firearms will be on the list at some point, unless you get permission to own one for special reasons.

Serious question, why do people like you make such utterly useless comments? Your comments are about as helpful as walking up to a 10 year old's birthday party and telling the little one that they're even closer to being dead now.

In 2014 I remember paying 220$ for a russian '' high grade SKS'' and guys buying chinese for 180$....

The end of the ''cheap'' milsurps era, sadly.. Robust rifles, the quality is still worth the price, but it does hurt to see the values so high now when you want to buy more.

Gotta stake 'em while you still can.
