according to the stamping codes on the barrel, it's made in February of 1965! Square safety switch, short shroud, and a big cut out of the rear receiver bridge. Im not sure if back then they bedded & free floated the action, but this one is. It doesn't appear to have many rounds through it. Only thing that has been altered is the butt plate removed and replaced with a Limbsaver![]()
It does shoot fantastic, but its not fast. Average 250 fps below what factory ammo is rated at (for 40, 50, 55 Hornady vmax). Rifle has 24" barrel
I loaded some rounds up with IMR 4007ssc, maybe that will perk it up a bit...the data looks good. Will test on Sunday
So it has the cut in the rear bridge like a 721/722 also...nice. It will have the two piece Walker sear also(named for Mike Walker, one of the designers of the original 721/722 which evolved into the 700) ....they usually adjust down quite low because you have half as much sear area contact as compared to the later one piece sear.
It would have had a checkered aluminium butt plate.
I had one just like it that dated May 66.......
You have a VERY early 22-250...Remington made it a factory cartridge in 1965.
