My new baby - coyotes beware!

according to the stamping codes on the barrel, it's made in February of 1965! Square safety switch, short shroud, and a big cut out of the rear receiver bridge. Im not sure if back then they bedded & free floated the action, but this one is. It doesn't appear to have many rounds through it. Only thing that has been altered is the butt plate removed and replaced with a Limbsaver :(

It does shoot fantastic, but its not fast. Average 250 fps below what factory ammo is rated at (for 40, 50, 55 Hornady vmax). Rifle has 24" barrel

I loaded some rounds up with IMR 4007ssc, maybe that will perk it up a bit...the data looks good. Will test on Sunday

So it has the cut in the rear bridge like a 721/722 also...nice. It will have the two piece Walker sear also(named for Mike Walker, one of the designers of the original 721/722 which evolved into the 700) ....they usually adjust down quite low because you have half as much sear area contact as compared to the later one piece sear.

It would have had a checkered aluminium butt plate.

I had one just like it that dated May 66.......

You have a VERY early 22-250...Remington made it a factory cartridge in 1965.

Hows that work on coyotes, I never tried that method of hanging a gun on a post? Must be something new like using a chainsaw to call in moose?

Half the weight of my back pack when loaded with my predator hunt gear is now spare batteries I don't/won't leave home without them ever again.

Did it twice now where I snowshoed in and the caller was dead... :(

I also always have my howler and Kiyi and a few other assorted mouth calls including fawn bleat in my pack.

Congrates on picking up a shooter for such a good price can you post or pm me the load data?

Decided to go with the Hornady 60 gr SP for hunting, it shoots fast enough and accurate enough for me. 3400 fps with IMR 4007ssc, I did a bit of fine tuning this afternoon with it at the range, now I will go try to break it in for real :dancingbanana:

Shot at my first coyote today with the 22-250. Long poke, 480 yards.....couldn't get it any closer and it was ready to bolt. Needless to say there is no pic to share of dead coyote :D

very nice...what stock is that?

looks like a B&C..?

'bartel...this must be a record for the length of time you've held on to a rifle..?:D

I see you have Talleys on it...how do they match up for height?

according to an article I have on the 700 sometime in 1974 the rear bridge height was changed.....mine had the wrong mounts on it,...the rear ring was quite a bit higher than the front ring...going thru my pile of bases I found two that matched up very closely.

I picked up that BDL 22-250 from the EE...dates Jan '74.....I have high hopes for it....IF I can hang on to it long enough.....mounted a Leupy 4-12X on it today.

it's a brand new HS precision sporter stock, kinda clubby feeling but I like it and it shoots well in it unbedded. Rings seem to be fine, never noticed any issue when mounting them. :) maybe I bent the tube on my Vx3 :p
