Very nice.
Are the rings TPS? also as above, which scope?

Congratulations. Should be lots of fun.

Don't know any scope info but that link looks correct...thanks. It does have green or red variable illuminated reticle with mil-dots. It does accept 10 round AR mags. They drop out nicely.:D Going to the range soon to zero it at 100 yards. Let you know how it goes.

The serial # says SL8-4. Shot a bit at the range and couldn't get smaller than 3" group at 100 yards. Could the 55 grain bullets be too light for the 1:7 twist? I may just be a crappy shooter :) Anyway its real smooth to shoot. Can I dry fire to realease the bolt as long as everything is together? Is there a way to release the bolt without dry firing? Thanks...new to semi auto's.

There have been issues with dry firing causing the stock to crack. I would say you should get a "dummy" round to release the firing pin. To release the bolt, just pull back on the cocking handle when there is no mag in it. (or am I missunderstanding the question?) If you search for sl8 cracking you will find the thread I am refering to.

I guess I ment release the firing pin. I looked at the cracking threads and thought it was just when dry firing with the stock off. This would slam the hammer mechanism up agaist the frame instead of the firing pin. Thanks

Mine is the same way. Shoots horrible with 55gr, but loves the heavier grain bullets.

I've owned my SL8 for 3 years now and I have dry fired it quite a bit. No crack as to date.
I have a G36 conversion stock on it now. It has the crack but it came that way from the previous owner.
I drilled a small hole just in front of the crack to stop it from migrating and seems to have done the trick.
From my experiences with this rifle, I firmly believe that the crack is caused by releasing the hammer while the stock is out of the receiver.
Without the bolt to stop the hammer, it hits the front of the trigger housing with substancial force to cause the crack.

I haven't gotten around to trying too many different kinds of ammo through my sl8 but the 62g AE or 69g Federal gets me a little over 1.25" at 100m, less for some of my friends who are better shooters than I am. POI seems to shift as barrel heats, but that could also be me. Just put a 10x scope on it, don't know if that will help me now.

If you don't want to dry fire, just pull the bolt back about an inch from fully closed position, then pull the trigger and slowly move the bolt forewords. Might need to try it a few times to find the right spot where hammer releases.

Went to the range...again!! :50cal: Shot better...about 2" group..but always has 1-2 flyers in 5. Kept the barrel cooler so more consistant. While another shooter was trying it out it went full auto for the last 2 rounds....how common is that? Is that a feed or trigger issue? We were kind of impressed! :D Even semi, as fast as you can, is impressive and I got 8/10 on the paper at 100 yards. I will have lots of fun tweaking ammo and probably getting a new scope. Thanks for the comments.

Price .... if you can get one under $2000 you are doing very well!! Wolverine has a new SL8-4 for $2144 plus tax etc...

If that one came from "up north", it was formerly out east, and I've got a recepie around here that it really liked before it was flogged to pay for my trip to Vimy Ridge in April.

It was a fan of Winchester black box 69 grain hollowpoint match ammo, and shot under 1 MOA at 300m for me that way. (Prone, bipod, Leupold scope (10X) ammo as per)

SL8-4 is Canada/Europe, black, double stack mag, short sight rail.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_&_Koch_SL8

The sl8-4 and -5 have a handguard similar to a g36 with the vent holes and pin for the sling. The sl8-1 handguard was solid with a moulded in hole for the sling. The sl8-1 were originally grey and the sl8-4 and -5 are now made in black. If you look at the picture posted at the beginning of the tread, you can see that the hand guard and the rest of the stock don't match exactly in colour.
The first SL8's in canada were the grey ones(-1 in the US). The SL8's we get now are the black ones (-4) The US market gets the blak ones also (SL8-6)
