You can have em, you just don't want to pay valmet money for one. So you cheap out and do a clone job instead. Nothing wrong with that but IMO in this case the final product doesn't look substantially better than standard CZ configuration. Your wood finish is definitely nicer than the garden variety CZ however.

a valmet may be like an AK but it is not a Kalashnikov. Nor can anyone really shoot/play with one. In my case it does LOOK better then a stock CZ. That is why I did what I wanted. Istead of having a generic CZ rifle or a AR/CZ rifle I went with the more classic look of the AK wood furniture then with the "garden variety" you speak of.

Speaking of lookalikes...doesn't Valmet copy the looks of their rifles directly from Kalashnikov? I guess we will be a while waiting for their copied version of the CZ/VZ which will also be ridiculously priced for those who want the bragging rights of just saying they own one. So...in reality...you don't own one either.

So I just got this very sweet kit from a very good friend and fellow cgn'er yesterday. All I can say is IMHO this has got to be the closest kit to making a CZ 858 look like an AK-47.
Just beautiful at how well it looks, feels and it was to put on the CZ. It uses all the basic hardware that the CZ comes with except for the original AK buttstock plate and sling swivel. Everything else came with the gun.
I cannot keep this man in the shadows any longer. His work has to be appreciated.

Yes, he will be selling sets for folders (no buttstock, for rifles & carbines), sets (eventually) for the new CSA 7.5", and from what I saw yesterday at his place it looks as if he has a couple full stock sets like mine ready to roll out soon. They will not be cheap as it takes a lot of time, work and effort to produce them but I feel if you want that AK wood look, this is the route to go!!!!!

ButtWhat, you did a great job. One of these days I'll get around to making a maple version. Cosmetically, the beaver barf furniture doesn't do it for me but more importantly, the oem pistol grip is too small and the LOP is a bit short for me. So I'll make my own furniture for functionality first, and aesthetics second.

Just my opinion based on direct experience with VZs and selectfire AKM's.
I'd take a AK74 over either, though.
Why the AK if the VZ is better? That is a confusing statement.
I like the VZ I have one and am quite happy with it. It shoots very well out to two hundred yards. It is well designed and looks great and best of all it is quite short and light and shoots an excellent cartridge.
What is not to like about the VZ-58 family of rifles?
(Rather have a G-3 but what the heck.)

Not really. I'm a big fan of the 5.45x39. Hence the "I'd take a AK74" comment. I've found 5.45 AK's to be very nice to shoot.

I'v always been intrigued by the 5.45 round, they look fun to shoot. Unfortunately havent fired any firearms in that caliber yet.

Anyway as I've said before, if I had a choice I would go with a quality AK over the VZ, it's not so much that the AK design is better as that the AK has benefitted from a lot more in the way of development and options.
I love shooting a friend's evil plum furnitured Arsenal 5.45 in Arizona, I'm not totally sold on the caliber but I'd trade my VZ58 for something like that in a heartbeat.
