My Marlin 336C review...
I decided to spend my small bonus cheque on a nice gun that would double as a backup deer gun. I had originally had my eyes on the henry 30-30 but after seeing several negative reviews about it I decided to look at the Marlin 336C. It was especially appealing at almost 300$ less than the Henry. The Marlin reviews were overwhelmingly positive with the exception of a few lemons whose owners went on understandable rants.
I decided to go to Lebaron in Ottawa. They had a new one in stock and it was in perfect condition.
Sights were straight, wood was perfect and no marks on the metal. That's always nice to start fresh considering bad experience with Norincos less than desirable machining and slight blemishes on other products purchased new over the years.
I took it to the bush to try a few quick rounds. It fed perfectly and the gun fired! Lol. With winchester PowerPoint 150gr at 50yards it shot slightly to the left and a bit high. After some research I decided to buy brass punches to tap over the iron sight dovetail mount.
I went to the range today. One small tap with the brass punch and the sight was aligned perfectly center on the target after inspecting my shots. Lowered the sight ramp and my rifle is zero at 50 yards.
It was nice that the process was so simple and the adjustments were minor. After 25 rounds through the rifle I'm VERY happy. It also shot the federal Fusion ammo identical to the winchester. That's my deer ammo. Reviews were criticall of the cross bolt safety... Who cares? The gun has half #### and I'll be using that. Times change and manufacturers have to be extra conscious of safety. I can deal with that.
I'd give this gun a 10/10. I've always wanted a 30-30 lever and I'm glad I chose this Marlin336C with the walnuts stock and iron sights.
I highly recommend it! I can't wait to shoot a buck with it in a few weeks (fingers crossed on that one)
The service at Lebaron in Ottawa was friendly as usual and my 10% off with a club lebaron card made my decision where to buy very easy.
