My NEW MDT LSS Arrived! First Impressions Report! Yahooo

What's the length of pull with that PRS on it (before adjusting it) ? That's the AR15 PRS stock right? On a side note the AR10 PRS stock will have the cheek piece further back if the AR15 one doesn't seem right, is too close or blocks the bolt in any way when raised.

I like the looks of this newest LSS chassis especially in FDE. But I have to admit there are still a few unknowns. I believe the PRS stock is the ticket for this chassis. The weight of the PRS should allow a bit longer barrel as well balance wise. I would probably go with an A frame AR stock for a 16" barrel. Something like the LMT Sopmod, B5 Crane, Magpul STR etc to keep the weight down and balance better.

The other issue is cost. $400 seems reasonable but then you have the $35 Magpul Miad grip to buy, the $220 magpul PRS, the $50 adapter for the PRS and the $100 magazine (Seem to recall seeing this price but could be wrong) to buy. Suddenly it's an $800 system and that's without extra mags. Looking forward to seeing how they perform and if it's a worthy upgrade. Just trying to find out from those buying them if they are worth it and how they like theirs.

Have not even installed my PRS yet and I'm loving it. Light enough and shaped to allow positional shooting. I can get solid kneeling and sitting and even get into the cradle easily. Made some good 100 m standing shots. I'd take it hunting in a pinch too. Well made and solid. I am very happy it's Canadian made too. Mags are less than $70 depending on where you buy. So far MDT has been great to deal with and I love that they support shooting events as well. I'm sold.

Shot well for you the other weekend, too. I'm not going to be able to give mine a trial until next week.

Got my adapter today. It works as promised, but I am pretty disappointed. I also have an MDT PRS adjustable buttstock, which add around an inch. With the adapter and the AR 15 PRS the LOP is over 16 ". I can't move my scope far enough back to get a sight picture. It works okay with a a carbine buttstock, but I can't get the butt pad off my collar bone in the prone without a vertical adjustment.

This is understandable. The LSS was not intended for fixed stocks, but we manufactured the adapter for them that really wanted to use one.
An option you may want to consider is using the Magpul CTR and use our adjustable recoil pad.

I would, but I spent all my money on a PRS and your adjustable butt pad for that! Don't get me wrong - the adapter and the adjustable butt pad are well designed and made. I just can't make it work for me on the LSS. I think you could get a fixed stock on here if you used a breaching length or a Colt short stock.

You may want to list the resulting LOP for folks so they don't get into the same bind. It looks like my AR is getting hell of an upgrade!

Will this one fit on a CTR? http://mdttac.ca/adjustable-ubr.html

You guys might want to consider making a version that is intended for fixed stocks. The PRS and the A2 are the norms for precision AR rifles. You only see A frame stocks for Reece style rifles and CTR for CQB stuff for the most part. The PRS would also help balance out the rifle with your stock design. I know this is the Light version of your design so I understand making it for a carbine style stock but if making a version for 24" or longer bull barrels a fixed stock is the only way to go.

Possible suggestion. Not as popular as magpul but the one that came with my Armalite AR15 (LE model) had a FAB defense stock from Israel. Doesn't have the double locking of the CTR but... I have to say I was pleasantly surprised enough with it that I haven't changed mine. I have a black CTR sitting in a box as well. The reason I suggest this is that there is an adjustable cheek pad as an option. Also the back flips open for battery storage etc. Might look cool and help with this issue. Here's a picture of one with the optional cheek piece.

$74 new for the stock, $25 for the cheek rest. They also have a pad with a build in monopod.

Just a suggestion. It's not a PRS but.... it might be the ticket under the circumstances.

This one looks a bit cleaner and might look better on the LSS.

$99 and cheek piece is $15. Has some sort of recoil reducer? Not sure what that's about.

Question for those that allready have one how do you think it would work with a 26in bull barrel. I am in the process of putting together a savage in 260 rem and allready have the barrel just need stock and scope was going to do a choate custom tactical but this stock has definatly peaked my interest.

I can't move my scope far enough back to get a sight picture.

Would a higher set of rings allow you the clearance of your objective bell to move the scope back further? Obviously I always try to keep my scope as close to the bore as possible as I can but I found just like with my original flat top MDT chassis I had to sacrifice that to use the scope I wanted and still get the clearance. At least that way you could keep the PRS. Rifle looks beautiful by the way.

I'm just waiting for my LSS to arrive for my Stevens, I have a Shilen 26" barrel waiting for the moment. For a similar price, I think the LSS offers more than the Choate (my original plan as well).

I take it the $400.00 doesn't include the buffer tube, pistol grip and stock? They seem like a good price until you have to get those parts.

whatchu talkinbout, willis? ya gotsta shop around...

Well I just emailed MDT to change my order to a TAC21 instead of the MDT LSS. After looking at the pictures and the LOP issue I dont want to be in the same boat.

I have a 26 inch barrel on my 10 FCPK and I dont think the PRS and 26" barrel combo will look right in the LSS

I agree, I have a 24" R5 in the LSS and it's got me thinking that a shorter barrel would look better. It looks a little out of balance.

Not an LSS of course, but here is my Savage Hog Hunter with a 20" barrel in a TAC21 with PRS stock.

I must say that the workmanship on the chassis is very good, not a blemish on it. Really good service from the guys at MDT as well.

The 24" barrel doesn't look too bad just a little long, I think a 20" or less would look more balanced.

What I did not like is the look of it with the PRS stock using the adapter.

I noticed that my PRS stock had a threaded hole and decided to use that to fix the stock to the tube without the adapter.

IMG_00000260_zps9c0a6d6d.jpg

Ran a 1/4-20 (I think, no gauges at home) machine screw into the stock and marked the location on the tube where it made contact.

IMG_00000261_zps2b9e7963.jpg

Drilled a hole and finished it with a .254" reamer to clean up any burs from the drill bit.

LOP is now closer to 14".

PRS stock is now mounted and solid to the chassis without the use of the adaptor. Time to go out and see if it can stand up to being used. I will put a pan head screw or countersink the stock to clean it up a little.
