My new NEA15 CQB Problems out of the box....

You should have returned it and asked for another rifle or for your money back.

I've owned 3 new AR's from RRA and Armalite and they were all tight and worked perfectly.

There is no excuse for this kind of shoddy work on a $1000 rifle!

NEA would probably prefer you returned the rifle and received satisfaction than advertise this piece of crap on this forum.

You are doing the company and yourself a disservice by trying to fix it yourself.

Every company can slip up and make a lemon. They want you to send it back and be satisfied. If not, they will not and should not stay in business very long.

Help the company by letting it know when a mistake is made and giving it a chance to make you a satisfied customer.

I have sent the appropriate message via their website customer service site and via PM on this site(still no response but i forgive them it is the weekend). I am not just complaining i am giving a "review" of a product which was shipped out by NEA to me the customer. I got the rifle on friday and it took me a bit of learning to figure out it was f**ked in the first place. we will just have to wait and see how NEA responds I am not doing this out of spite just another project to me. and a learning experience.

Since i am mechanically inclined have the know how and the tools i did this work myself because i can. still doesn't excuse the s**tty QA/QC from the factory.

I personally want to see NEA step up to the plate here I like a canadian AR for $1000 that works properly. I also know that my case is not the norm and lots of people got rifles that work great out of the box...just wish mine was one of them....

also i should point out when NEA did respond to my "complaint" that the charging handle was not able to pull to the rear their response was "are you pulling down on the handle when pulling back?" to me that is like someone from the IT department asking "did you try turning it off and back on again? is it plugged in?" instead of just believing me that the part was out of spec. I think #### either works right or doesn't work right.

"do or do not there is no try"-yoda

I understand that mistakes happen in factories but they shouldn't be shipped out to the customer if there is quality assurance or quality control by people who know what to look for.

I Hope to change this thread to a story of excellent customer service next week. and hopefully add a range report.

the trigger now feels acceptable to me not too heavy probably 7-8 lbs it is smooth except where the hammer notch strikes the sear face there is a definite mark and you can feel a bit of a dent when you pull the trigger. i won't do any thing more than polishing the face of the sear and hammer surfaces with a cloth wheel and buffing compound.

Looking at that trigger you clearly got one of the POS ones. I just tossed my trigger/hammer that came with mine (from the very first run). That looks like the 12lb+ trigger spring, and, that wear mark on the face of the trigger sear is from the hammer wearing through. It's only gonna get worse, believe me. I changed my parts out for those in the DPMS lower parts kit, and the difference was night and day. Super smooth, predictable pull, and around 7lbs now. I think it's actually gone down a touch since I worked in the engagement surfaces.

Of course, instead of complaining to the internet, why not create a ticket with NEA customer support, and see what they have to say about it? Complaining to the internet isn't going to help NEA address quality concerns.

X2

Turf that trigger. I did the same fix as you once mine started doubling and after another ~100 rounds it was almost back to the way it was. The metal is too soft.

I ran the replacement they sent me for a week, then ended up buying a 2 stage anyway. (That 12 pound pull sucks on a gun that's only shot at a range, once a month)

FOr $200 more you could have purchased a Spikes Tactical 10.5 " from Questar when they were in.

https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1794&bc=no

And there are Rock River Arms 10.5" on sale with Questar right now for $1099.

https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1021&bc=no

And $1249.

https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1820&bc=no

These options are a few bucks more, but it's worth not having the aggravation and grief, and maybe having to ship your rifle back and loosing it for a while while it gets fixed.

I would also change out that stock extension nut for a proper one that could be staked.

True this. I can't see if the castle nut has notches so it can be staked or not just from looking at the pictures but that's another thing that is good to do on an AR-15.

it does have notches got any pics of how to do it and no it wasn't staked in any of them it had a bit of a staking on top (small dent really) where the nut meets the plate. it hasnt shown signs of loosening though i haven't shot it yet.

Some AR-15 end plates are very hard to stake because of the metal they are made out of but as long as the castle nut is torqued properly, I don't think that it should come loose. If they rarely come loose on C7s that go full-auto on ranges very often, it shouldn't come loose on a semi-auto AR-15 that uses 10 round magazines at best. ;) It's not something I'd be worried about.

Hmmm I'm 1500 rounds into a Norc 14.5" that runs like a top. Cleaned and lubed at 1000 rounds and from here until it fails [non-mag] there is no cleaning, only lube every 1000. Ive seen this done 2x before and the norc is a reliability monster. Runs better dirty. naughty whore of a gun.

Was an email from a sponsor away from committing to NEA. Too bad they never got back to me[?]

Ars are one of the most replicated rifles on the planet and for a company to not get it right is pretty pathetic. There's is only a couple hundred companies your could've copied

I just happen to have a BCG on hand to compare.

i will just add WOW to the trigger parts..... the norks have better finish on them. Just saying.
That is some rough looking #### right there. And what is with the BCG, they said they had the staking done properly now. Still looks to me like it is the same sharp looking cuts like the early ones.

The rifle should definitely work out of the box no matter what the cost. Either $500 or $5000. But how much should we expect the fit and finish of the rifle compared to rifles that cost twice as much?

As described in this thread, there was a serious problem with the trigger mechanism parts. Personally, I would be more inclined to replace a trigger/disconnector/hammer set if the disconnect function was not perfect, rather than altering the brand new defective parts with a Dremel.
The test the OP described - dry fire, hold the trigger back, cycle the action, release the trigger, insure that the mechanism resets - is a standard one with any semi auto firearm. If a gun fails, there is a really serious problem. And even if the thing cycles normally dry, actually firing it adds a lot of stresses.
This business with the stock plate fouling the cocking handle is interesting. If the top of the plate blocks the cocking handle, and prevents it from being pulled back, how did the rifle get proof/function fired during manufacture?

ALL rifles leave the shop with a minimum of a 10rnd test fire. Some more if any issues are discovered if they have to go back a stage. All rifles receive a minimum of half a dozen function checks at various stages of QC before they are boxed up. We do not use a standard function check, it receives several checks pulling at different angles and pressures/speeds. Every rifle.

All I can say is that this rifle was completely functional when it left our dock. What the issue was, or what was causing it we'll never know because the user, who's new to firearms and has never owned an AR took a Dremel to the fire control components.

That trigger group is an old one. We're not using those, nor those springs on our guns now. So you likely have a rifle model that's been behind in the system.

DO NOT shoot this gun until those components are replaced.

Finally, if anyone wishes to reach us with a comment/question or concern, the Black Rifles section after hours on a Friday is not the place to do it. We are very easy to get in touch with.

Dweenz, we will be in touch shortly.

i would like to add the only part altered was the trigger and i never used a dremel to remove material it was a file. i never used a dremel to alter any of the engagement surfaces other than polishing on the sear engagement surfaces with a cotton wheel and buffing compound (wax). anyways i hope everyone had a good weekend.

thanks NEA,
