Thank you Prophet River Arms. Awesome service.

I couldn't resist getting one of these cool little rifles in a classic chambering. I bought a few boxes of different factory ammo that I will throw down range before working on some hand loads.

I'm going to shoot it with the irons for the first range trip before mounting the VX3 2.5-8 that I ordered with it.

I'll try to post up some gun #### later today!

Good for you, you'll love it. I settled on a Leupold fixed 3 power on mine.

Nice shooting long branch:).

I'll post up some results using factory ammo and the irons tomorrow or Saturday. Heres some pictures I took of the rifle last night.

Hey johnnybear and longbranch, nice rifles and very nice wood. I've had a few #1's and one of the three had somewhat plain wood and apparently this was the case for a couple of years. A shooting buddy of mine has about a dozen of them and he also has a couple with relatively plain wood.

With the caliber, although out of a couple Jungle Carbines I have, some of my best accuracy has been with 215gr Woodleigh bullets.

Thanks Johnn. I'm looking into the Woodleigh's. The throats on these rifles are looooong.

Although Sierra has been my 'go to' bullet for accuracy in hunting bullets, this hasn't been the case for me with my Jungle Carbines. The 174gr Hornady and the 215gr Woodleigh have done better for me, and I'm guessing it may at least partially be because of the difference in diameter. The 180gr Sierra I have are 0.311" where as the Hornady and Woodleigh I've mentioned are 0.312".

Another reloading aspect I've found, that in many cases has helped accuracy for me in a few calibers is minimizing the freebore. In most cases the magazine length may restrict how much you can increase the C.O.A.L. but in your single shot No. 1, this shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps try and cut down on the long throat aspect by increasing the C.O.A.L. and see if it effects your accuracy in a positive manner.

I have an article that deals with improving accuracy in the No.1 that I'll PM you.

Are these rifles basically the same ones on special order for Gunnutz? It appears that Ruger is offering these in there regular lineup now. This is a very tempting item. One could load the 303 British to its full potential:evil:

Thanks for the PM and article JP;). Came through no problem. Got some reading material for this evening.

Cheers
John

Hope it's of some value to you and:) nice to have met you at the show in Duncan this morning. Contrary to usual, I came away relatively unscathed. I picked up a box of Norma 7x61 S&H Super ammo plus a couple of Weaver pivot scope mount bases. Spent less than $100.oo, which for me, shows a lot of control:p.

Oh, that custom Ruger No. 1 at the show sure was pretty. Excellant wood.

Congratulations. I have had mine since the early fall. Mine likes 180 and 200 gr It shoots the 200 gr into sub 1" at 100. I have scoped mine with a Nikon Omega 3x9 because of the extra eye relief I suspect you will enjoy your new rifle. I am presently looking for a 7x57 RSI or a 6.5x55.

Nice to meet you as well Johnn. Sorry we didn't have more time to BS. Another time perhaps. That custom No.1 was a dandy for sure.

Thanks Randy. I finally made it to the range today to try her out. I was shooting at 50 yards with the factory irons.

I went armed with a box of 150gr. Federals, a box of 180 gr. Federals and a box of good old 180gr. Winchesters.

The 150's grouped around 2" and the 180's (Federal) grouped around 1.5" and the good old Winnies.........

The real kicker here is that I was aiming at the top left bull of this 5 bull target! The sites are quite off so to speak. I will adjust them and get her shooting straight with the irons before mounting the scope.

I can't wait to get the scope on her and try some hand loads:)!

i have for sale j.p.sauer drilling in 303 british, thet will hoot with iron sight under inch at 50 meters, beautifull rifle, anyone interested let me know,pm me

Randy,

What make are your 180 and 200 grain bullets?

180 are speer and the 200 are from Steve Ridgewell. He used to hand swage them but the demand dropped so he no longer produces them. They are .314 as I bought them for a #4 mk2. I do not push my loads hot so these shoot well and there are no pressure signs. The nice thing about the #1 is that there is no case stretch.
