My new Norinco JW-21 Lever

I've got a case of 'woulda,coulda, shoulda' when it comes to why I don't buy a JW21....just can't go the current price even though I realise its a direct result of the Canadian dollar...tough convincing myself I really 'need' another 22 to add to the 25 plus collection if 22's already in my guncabinet..
 
That's simple ratherbefishing , send me a couple of your 22's and then you will have room and you will have less than 25 , so you will need to add more to get to 25 ..

See no worries !
 
Hah! Wait for the gun auction my wife plans on holding at my funeral....which she says could come sooner than I think if I buy another .22.Last one I said I bought for my granddaughter...( she's 3 months old)

The finger keyed to the lever that engages the bolt carrier...
Have replaced a couple of broken ones with parts salvaged from scrapped 9422s. No fitting required. Wouldn't be surprised if other parts could be used.

Not everything made in China is junk .
They can make high quality goods if the company having the items made pays for a quality product .
But the Chinese manufacturers are more than willing to make low quality goods as well !
I know it's been said a million times but you do get what you pay for :rolleyes:
 
Good to read some feedback on them. I've been wondering what kind of quality they would be as I've never seen them in person. Levers are cool. Steel is great!
 
That's a nice looking little gun; I may need to have a close look at one. It's funny; lever guns have never done much for me...at least not until recently. I picked up a .357 Rossi Ranch Hand for a really good price, invested $55. on a full stock from Boyd's and it's very quickly become my favorite bush gun. I'm thinking a little .22LR like this would be great for our annual gopher crop & harvest. I've been out a couple times with the Ranch Hand & it's very quick to get on target & shooting with iron sights is a bigger challenge and way more fun.
The only issue is even a light loaded .38 spl round blows them in half, and a .357 mag chews them up like a meat grinder...the end result is the same, it's just a bigger mess to deal with. A .22LR is perfect for that job, though
 
I bought one of Can Amm's last 21's a few years back $179.00 plus tax :)

1. Took a dremel to all the edges and cold blued it
2. Bought a few speed loaders from the US turned the grandkids loose on the action ..
3. Winchester parts fit it like any/all replacement parts ..
4. Had an friend in France source a replacement Winchester bolt group and it was perfect ( I mine has only seen 2 to 3 k rounds so no breakdowns expected )
5. I also purchased a replacement ring ( Winchester .. fit like a glove )
6. Where it is a takedown ... fits in a pack

Speed loaders are plastic tubes ..hold 8 sections of 15x 22lr .. pull the mag tube ..dump the 15 rounds .. you are good to go

I still intend to source a Winchester "brass" mag tube, but I am fine with the steel .. has to be something to set it apart from a Winchester :) ( ok ok walnut stock excepted )

Great purchase ... best use of a chineese railroad rail I have seen .. well my T97 is pretty solid.

Could be just Internet dust, but when I researched the rifle before purchase ( ya even $179.00 needed research ) I came across information that indicated Norinco bought the Winchester tooling after Winchester shut it down .. seems unlikely, but the units sold around the world


EDIT : speed loader ...... Speed-D-Loader ( for the day the gophers revolt )

Dead on .. Open sights with my 63 year old eyes .. Grankids have/had a ball with it .. I used a Savage Stevens 22/410 ( over under single selected shot ) as a kid, no fancy lever, so prior experience was lacking, but several months after I owned the Jw-21 I was at the range with a friends Winchester and the Jw. Right away the $179.00 Jw-21 was functional and the safe queen Winchester was not .. I agree the Winchester had a smoother action .. the walnut stock was nicer to look at, but the winchester did not deliver lead down line any better, and a lot of extra care was required to not devalue it.

But beauty and desire by others makes our world .. function is a pure third :)
 
'$179 JW-21' .....still kicking myself over that....hindsight is 20/20....try doubling that now...
What's the trigger like?

Range report on my JW-21

Shooting distance 50 yards
Temp 105 degrees F ( with Humid ex ) , 98 degrees in the shade ........ HOT !!!!!
Wind 20 to 50 KMPH ( Gusts )

Ammo Winchester Super X first group * shot group one flyer top of orange sold square , strung top to bottom of the centre of target , CCI Min mag grouped to the right of target , this was a 8 shot group
Rilfe JW -21 , 20 inch barrel
4 Power Aim Point scope ( inexpensive )

Due to windy and gusty conditions it was difficult to sight in the scope .
I did not spend a lot of time due to the heat and wind shooting today .

I am confident that accuracy will improve with more shooting and better conditions .
 
I just picked up a very lightly used one for fairly cheap off the EE, it doesn't look like it was fired much if at all, and I'm keen to try it out on the next big weekend.
As the others posted it is quite a smooth action, the wood fitment isn't excellent, its larger and protrudes outwards from the metal surfaces where they meet, but without big gaps between, so I'll probably just sand it down and refinish it at some point, and maybe knock an inch off the LOP at that time. I do find it to be heavier then one would expect, the bolt cycles smoother then expected, but I wish they would have put a bolt with a knurled head for the takedown like is done on the 1906 winchester pumps, though their is risk of dropping and loosing the bolt mechanism from the receiver unlike the winchester. Perhaps I'll make something. This and the winny pump will be great for my girls to learn to shoot on when their older.

High trail tracker, yours looks great with a little scope on it, I was totally opposed till I saw the picture, I was thinking of a bullseye rear sight, now I'm second guessing...
