My New Rifle! First Big Boy Cal!!!

I ordered the gun from the local gun store, originally in a 7mm rem mag, but it was taking for ever to come in, the place i ordered it kept calling the supplier and they couldnt tell them when one would be in.... and told them they had a 300 win mag that would ship next day if interested, so here she is.... I paid 679+tax, so right around 760ish out the door... The scope i bought used, we will see how it fairs, ill try it for now and go from there. We shall see... i have yet to sight it in, weather has been crap!

Also not sure if it makes a difference, the scope i have is the bushnell model, only review i founds on a 300 win mag, was 50 rounds fired and still holding zero, we will see.

Ya hopfully it just works out for you , it could just work out well. ive had some less exspensive scopes not hold up well on guns that are classed "Heavy Recoil Class " which the 300wm definatly is. Will be sweet if it does. best of luck !

Hoping to get a chance to sight it in soon, and get to play with it, just been too busy hunting pheasant in the short season we have. and trying to get out for deer too, lol in time, ill get to play with it!

Not the choice i would have made but then again, i'm drunk at present and would probably make very bad choices no matter what i do. It looks like a nice gun but, because im a big puss-puss and i don't see the need for 300 win mag recoil, i'da gone with something smaller. .308 for this big drunk puss-puss over here. Hope you enjoy your rifle dude.

I'm not typing too bad for a guy who's drank almost a 40oz of vodka in the last 8 hours huh? Not bad.....Not bad at all....

Nice, how do you like it in the 22-250? Im planning to eventually get the barrel for it... With out the scope it is advertised at 6.8lbs. the scope it self is heavy enough, i would need to find a scale to get an accurate measurement with it on there before i throw any #'s out there. Fist time i shot this rifle, at the range, it kicked pretty good, but this is the only rifle ive shot besides a .22lr LOL, Mostly used a shot gun in the past!

Congrats on the new toy. I shot the 300 for........... years. Very effective. Use heavy bullets 180 grain or better. The 150's and 165's tear deer up. The 190's and 200 grain don't wreck them as bad.

Thanks for the tip, any reason as to why the smaller bullets wreck more then the bigger ones? Expand too much? Bigger ones stays smaller? I have 180Gr Superformance hornady's that ill be using now, planning to use theses for moose, have yet to sight it in tho, havnt got to that yet.

Faster moving projectiles create hydraulic shock, which jells the meat around the entry and sometimes exit.

A heavier projectile will move slightly slower out the barrel for the same caliber, but will retain energy better and sometimes be closer to the same velocity as the smaller projectile towards the extent of their usable range.

Hydraulic shock happens (as I understand it) because the projectile hits so fast and displaced tissue around the point of impact so quickly the tissue is compressed in a shock wave and you get wasted meat, so something like a 45-70 in a 350 grain projectile can do much less damage than a 7mm RM

Finally put a few clips down range today to get it sighted in close, was to windy for me to want to finish dialing it in, but so far so good with this gun, im happy with it, seems to shoot well so far, have to put more rounds through it, but it adds up quick! Gonna wait for a calm day and play with it some more, and dial it in, but right now it is pretty close! I like it, going moose hunting with it near the end of the season in december!

I had a chance to shoulder one of the TC dimensions at P&D in edmonton (first time to that shop, what a great place, Id rather have them in town then wholesale) anyway what a great rifle to shoulder. It looks funny but the cheek rest was in a comfortable position, the grip on the forestock was grippy and comfortable, and that bolt was slick but had much better angle when you open it compared to my savage.

The bolt is almost touching the scope on the savage (model 16) in comparison, but that thing almost just sticks straight out when you bring it up, similar to an A-bolt, so no complications with scopes or bases. The bolt handle looked a bit"tacti-cool" but was very natural to cycle the action.

If anyone is curious about this rifle they should try shouldering one, if it can do a decent group I think its probably a great bang for the buck, pun intended.

Plan on trying some groups on a calm day, sighted it in shooting on the rooftop of my car, at 100 yards on a windy day, First shot i took was 8 inches right at 40 yards.got it closer at 40 then pushed it out to 100, and then got it near as well, all 9 shots i was able to keep them in a near straight line working towards the middle, but there was a good side wind, not sure how much wind will push a bullet at 100 yards with 10mph or so winds, so i got it close and going to wait for a calm day. I really like the way the gun shoulders, also let my buddy fire it and he agreed as well... Had a few other people shoulder it, but not fire it and all really like the way it pulled up. Hoping to play with it some more this weekend. I was shooting a box of 180Gr Winchesters i picked up at Cdn tire for now.

No sure about the "protest at the front door", but this Fudd does certainly hate it.

Looks like it should be restricted.

This rifle looks dangerous and makes me feel frightened and confused as well. LOL.

Please post your thoughts about that scope after some range time. I am curious about how robust it will be an top of a kicker like a 300.

Only 9 rounds through it so far, the only review ive found online on a 300 was 50 rounds and still solid, so we shall see how it fairs, gona try it out one more time this weekend maybe, if not ill be taking it moose hunting next weekend!
