After trying to decided wich non-restricted black rifle to get, I finally decided to to go with the HK sl8. Mostly due to accuracy being my major concern.

And I have to say I am glad I did. The ergos are not that bad, despite what every one else say. I can reach the saftey with my thumb no problem, and my hands easily hands the thumb hole stock. And weight issues... if you need a rifle lighter than this thing, mabey you might want to take up baking instead.

Accuracy was definitely MOA. I set it up with a bushnell trophy 3-9 mildot, in weaver rings. I was shooting remington 77g match, and hornady 75g steel match. I shoot just a bit over moa but that was do to flyers, as I didn't have the rings torqued to the rail enough ( i didnt want to damage the polymer base). So there is no doubt in my mind that with a better set up, hand loads and little more determination I will shoot 1/2-3/4 MOA.

Also a side note on the Hornady steel match. This stuff ran flawlessly. No FTE or stoppages at all. Unless you count the one were my beautiful finance road the bolt closed here first time cocking it. ( her fist time with a auto loader)

I might one day start dreesing her up, swith AR mag well, diffrent butt stock, but as far as Iam concerned only thing I need to do I switch out the long as rail, for a low pro low rail.

Congrats on your choice and shooting success!

I've got one on order - can't wait.

I am looking for a low rail to mount the scope - easily available and cheap in the US, but seemingly unobtanium in Canada. It is listed on a few web sites in Canada, but predictably "out of stock".:bangHead:

Let us know if you find a source.

Happy shooting!

An excellent choice. I have one with the H&K bipod. It is front heavy so either bipod or sandbag it. I have a Burris XTreme Tactical on mine and it is very accurate.

Have fun and keep us up to date on how it's working out for you!

If you are concerned about over-torquing the scope rings, there are two options:
- Swap out the poly rail with an aluminum one, but most of these are the short SL8-4/-6 style, so you lose your BUIS on an SL8-5 long rail.
- Use a short height (0.25" or 0.5" thick style) AR Riser (aluminum picatinny to picatinny lift) that is long enough for the distance between the rings, and use Low rings if possible to get the scope back lower to bore. The AR Riser should be the type that has the full length sides, not the type that has one short clamp at each end. This alleviates the issue of the two short rings having to deform the rail, since the riser will provide a good 4"-6" of full length grip on the poly rail.

The one I used to have really liked Black Hills Match 77gr. That tight 1:7 twist barrel will throw 55gr but the heavier the better.
I had an early one and had some problems with it but the newer ones are supposed to be much better. If it wasn't for the issues I had I would probably still own it.

Just know that if you run handloads through it and have a problem HK (FN Sports in Canada) will tell you to piss up a rope and you will get no warranty.
