My New Steyr Mannlicher Luxus

Caramel-- i notice your wood in the closeups has a deeper grain and a heartier stain applied to it-- did you have this done or did it come this way?

No it was the option G3 wood and set trigger but i am no sure about #3, it's gorgous wood... JP.

How do you like it compared to the Sako? Pretty similar? Anything clearly superior in one or the other?
Well, the trigger in "regular" mode on the SAKO isn't quite as clean as the Steyr, but, the SAKO also has the singe set, which is beautiful. The weight difference is quite dramatic. And the SAKO is a noticeably larger firearm At the range, the recoil is too close to call- the SAKO being a magnum (7mm) with the weight, and the SM at 30.06 as a light weight. Both guns recoil in such a fashion that i find it very easy to keep my FOV on target at long ranges-- much easier than my other rifles.
I am waiting to mount my Conquest on a used Sauer 202 I just bought (also in 30.06). I'll post a true comparison of all three. Fit and finish is impeccable on all three -- ( i had read somewhere that the Sauers had spotty checkering, but mine is fantastic. I will say that the finish on the SAKO feels more like a real euro oil finish, with a very flat, almost bare wood look. Its bluing is more authentic looking as well, whereas the other 2 have bluing that is more like a coating. All three bolts are GLASS smooth. Both of the germans break down into really cool looking components.

Money is for buying stuff but it always create a lot of hapiness when given to a young couple to permitted them to adopt a little chinese girl...
In that case money = Happiness... JP.
Good for you JP!! That's a kindness that will be felt for many generations.

I do not have this model of Steyr but I do have a newsih Mannlicher in 222 and a Pro hunter in 6.5 x 55 and I think they are excellent rifles for the money.. FS
