So I just finished a new grip, thought just the left side. I will make the right side this weekend, it is bookmatched to this one, so it should basically be a mirror. Anyway, I'm not even sure what kind of wood this is, I think it might be boxelder burl, but it is acrylic-stabilized. What do you think?

Those are very, very nice!

I'd be up for a set if the right side grip was cut [slot] correctly for the GSG 1911 .22lr ambi-safety.... ;)

NAA.

So, a little update. I did some searching and found out what kind of wood the grips are. Ready for this? Redwood Burl. Serious. I guess the acrylic that the guy used for stabilization has a green tinge to it. Anyway, I finished up the right side grip, just have to do final polishing, and will probably post pics tomorrow.

Burls often suffer from deseases that colour the wood so it's entirely possible that the colours are all natural. Especially if the burl came off a deadfall that spent any significant amount of time on the forest floor before being harvested.

You did a great job on them. They really set off the pistol. I'm curious about how well the smooth finish will work out for you. Report back on that aspect after the first range session if you please.

Well, I've already shot it with the camo grips I made, and they were a shiny finish - no trouble whatsoever. The .45 ACP just doesn't kick enough to need checkering to hang on to.
