Good solid platform for most uses. I am a Mossberg fan I have a 500 in 16 gauge. Yours has some kind of cool pattern in the fore end wood. Use the FULL choke for trap. Enjoy the new gun.

Pretty simple, it's a Mossberg 500 Field 12ga with the 28" barrel. I'll see if this one does better than the 590 shorty at trap.
Tell me, why choose the full choke over the improved cylinder?
Is it ok to shoot the gun with no choke installed? With those threads exposed, will they get damaged without a choke covering them?
I must say that both my Mossbergs had terrible manuals. They are both the same manual and really don't answer a lot of questions I have.
For Trap, you would need either a Full or IM (not IC) whichever patterns ther best in your gun.

I have shot clean rounds of trap with a Mod. You don't need a tighter choke from the 16 yard line.
should I move to some kind of anti-sieze?
Great input, thanks! I will take all the chokes with me on my next session. I will also ask a lot of questions, so thanks again. I've only done three rounds so far. And that was with a 590 tactical shorty (20"). But, the guys there said "just bring what you have" and try it out. Was it ever fun! I'm hooked, and that's why I bought this gun.
As for cleaning, yes, I did. Gave the whole gun a cleaning, lubed with G96, and treated the wood. Should I just use the clp to lube the threads? Or should I move to some kind of anti-sieze?
Ok, I have some kopr-kote. Thanks.
That's what I use. Awesome, messy stuff lol. I'll also echo a full choke being a good choice for trap. Of course, pattern with all your chokes. But I saw my scores improve switching to full. Gives you more time to point and track.
